Steering Clunk at a Stop

Was turning the wheel while sitting in traffic. From between the 10 o'clock and two o'clock position I get a clunking noise. It's fine while driving (although the on center feel is pretty sloppy).

Any thoughts?

That's one of those deals where you're gonna have to crawl under there and look while somebody else steers. Look for slop in all tie rod ends, drag link, trac bar, steering stabilizer, ball joints, control arm bushings, steering box.If it's making a clunk you'll see it jump under there or at least hear where it's coming from.

Thanks CJ, never did suspension work before.

Also check the universal joint in the link going to the gear box. My joint has a small amount of play there. Mine is not a u joint like on a driveshaft, but rather a simple universal joint made to the seering rod coming thru the firewall to the gear box. I have a small amount of play, but maybe you have something more interesting there. That might not be the problem, but at least have a look and see.

I had the same problem. I also had a clunk during breaking. It was the drag link that was bad. As the others said you'll need to go under and look.
