Interest in 2012 JGC

Hey guys, I've been trying to decide on getting a new '12 JGC and I'm torn between both engines. I don't plan on towing much and if I do I would probably wouldn't go over 4,000 lbs with maybe a medium sized boat or trailer every once in a while. I sat in the seat of both models and I still can't decide. I would like to get the V6, but I want to try to eliminate the chance of buyer's remorse. I'm a bit concerned about mpg as well (not a lot, I know it's a Jeep). I noticed that a lot of V8 owners seem to be getting like 10-13 mpg city, and I drive mostly city, so this is kinda making me lean toward the V6.

My question is for the people with V6 models, how much are you guys towing and how is the jeep handling under the load (I would REALLY love to hear from some V6 owners towing heavier loads as well maybe 4k+ lbs), and for V6 and V8 owners how's your mpg in the city?

I know I have to make the decision, and put more time behind the wheel of both models, but I want to get as much info as possible and I've been searching for days and I couldn't really find what I was looking for.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

For the ones that are adding irrelevant comments and linking threads, believe me I've read them already. I'm asking specific questions to specific things, and this is not to be classified at a which 1 is better, has more power, etc. thread. I know some of the pros and cons of each, and if I was able to do an extended test drive to get mpg info or hook up a trailer to both and see how they handle, I wouldn't need to make this thread.

Not another pisss match. Do a search V8 or v6.

Like I told someone else...if you're asking the question and you're torn, you really want the V8, but just don't want to pay for the gas. The 3mpg difference isn't huge, and you'll smile every time you put your foot down. No regrets here.

I was debating on the same thing, but I rented a GC for a weekend to see how I liked it anyway, and it came with the V6 - I never found myself wanting for power, and it had plenty of pickup from a standstill and while in traffic - I stepped on the gas at 60+ to pass and it took off. I decided I didn't need the 8.

I heard it was only 3 mpg, but it seems like a bigger difference with some. Some V8 owners are saying they're getting 12-13 mpg city and some V6 owners are saying they're getting 20+ city. I was set on the V8 until I saw this, so now I'm just trying to get a bit more info from both platform owners so maybe it can help me decide. Thanks for the info.

If you plan to tow 4k lbs more then a few times and the terrain quite hilly, you'd probably be better. I've towed just over 2k pounds a short 20mile trip last week and it seemed to performed just fine. I have only had the jeep 3wks so I don't have a lot of tow time to share. Bottom line is the v6 will pull just fine, but you'll feel it where as with the hemi the trailer weight will go unnoticed for the most part. I tow a handful a times a year and went back and forth between the two and went with the v6.

The city MPG question has been discussed in many threads. your numbers are fairly accurate...10-13 vs 15-18 city depending on time of year and driving style.

No one ever buys a Grand Cherokee with a V8 and then laments "boy I wish I didn't go with the Hemi" shoulda got the V6! NO ONE!

Think about it!

If it helps you any, I wound up buying the V6. I'm not going to tow enough, often enough, to justify the Hemi.

I hope so, because I ordered a V8 last month and it's already at the dealship, and I did some more searching and when I saw drivers saying they were getting 10-13 mpg city I panicked. Driving the current 2011 GLK gets about 20-22 mpg city with a V6 similar specced to the JGC Pentastar V6, but it's not mine, so the difference kinda scared me lol.
