2012 Overland shudder/vibration at cruising speeds and lurch on start.

I have been experiencing both of these phenomena in the first 1700 mi. took delivery on 11/30 drove home almost 60 mi. from the dealer and didn't feel it at all if it was happening. It has gotten progressively worse and now it seems that any cruising between 50 and 80 mph it will shudder/vibrate intermittently but repeatedly. I think it may be the new transmission scheme as if you shift the ERS into 5 it goes away. I still feel the driveline lash is violent in this vehicle not sure if it is because it's more off road ready than most or if it is a problem... The lurch forward is odd though and I will mention that to the service dept at the dealer. I am thinking of changing all of the fluids to Royal Purple at 3000 mi and see what happens.

Don't waste your time or money. It is a characteristic of the drivetrain on the Hemi and while one might seem like it is a big deal, to most it is a minor gripe. Changing all the fluids are not going to help and make it a bigger deal as you have spent so much time and effort but have still not remedied it.

It is amazing how things change in just the first 3000 miles as the parts adjust. Hang in there for a while.

Can you say that the shudder/vibration feels like the engine is lugging? If it goes away when you drive in "5", then it probably has something to do with the MDS system. The MDS is turned off when shift to "5" and then you are running on 8 cylinders. With MDS on, you run with 4 cylinders, and, at least on my HEMI, it feels like the engine lugs some. I find running in 5th gear is smoother, more enjoyable, although gas mileage will suffer some.

I am having the same issues. Not a severe shudder but I have noticed and yes it feels like engine lugging. The bigger issue is the Lurching at start up. Had this happen several times. There are other threads on the the site that have reported this issue. I have a 2012 Overland I purchased this month with 500 miles and V8

I am willing to accept the behavior just want to know it should be happening. I thought I caught the serv 4wd light flash on the otherday but think it may have been the flash at start up. I do think it has everything to do with the MDS and new shift mapping as it is deffinately at cruising throttle levels the prime example is accelerating to 74mph and then holding the throttle manually at that point it is constant and I'd compare it to the ocean waves on a beach as far as frequency.

I don't think anybody should accept an issue like that, no other vehicle I have owned has had these issues and they unacceptable for a vehicle of this price. I took my Overland in for a steering rack rattle and they said another one in the shop does it so it must be normal. I've never heard of a rattle being normal, especially when it wasn't there for the first 4 months of ownership.

I'm taking mine in for the fourth time now for violent shuddering and vibrations. One tech I talked to over the phone was very honest and admitted there is no fix and they're seeing a lot of V8's for this but can only replace the torque converter or update the software which I've done twice now. I'm so frustrated with this truck.

X2 Troy. First, ALL please excuse minor rant I am about to go on....I am worse than fedup and we need more owners to stand up and complain LOUDLY to dealers and Chrysler Customer Service. Most people I have discussd this with or see on forums agree the vehicles DID NOT exhibit the issue on tests drives or when new but generally start from 2000 to 5000 miles and many get worse (as mine has) over time. I get sooo pissed when I hear many say "just accept" as part of the vehicle. I just dont understand that...we could go out and buy the cheapest new vehicle and it would not have these issues. I have been in the automotive business for 40 + years and NO WAY this is normal or acceptable (to me). I have put in a year of returning to the dealer and contacting customer service and "no" I have nothing to show for it but only way to speed up a fix and force them to a fix, is for MORE to do the same! Yes, I do have the option of trading or selling a now over year old vehicle at about a 15,000 to 20,000 loss but don't have the extra cash just lying around for this and had planned to have this vehicle many years and had purchased extended warranty etc to facilitate that. srry all for the rant again!!

I'm going to try again this week to get my issue resolved. It will be the fourth time for the drivetrain issue. If I can't get it resolved I'm hiring a lemon law lawyer and put some feelers out there todo a class action lawsuit for the hemi owners that have the unfixable shudder problem.

What exactly does your do. I know you say shudder, but this is a word that is way over used on this vehicle it is used to describe almost every issue. If it had a torque coverter shudder that is usually something that is pretty harsh it will shake the whole vehicle. If you are talking about the miss fire type feeling that is something that is a characteristic of the hemi. So from what you describe it seems the torque converter did not resolve the issue. It doesn't really surprise me that the problem is worse after the repair. I have not read one case on these forums where that took care of the problem and in almost every case seeems to have made it worse. In my opinion once you take the bolts out its never the same. I myself would not have let them do this repair. No one can say if yours is worse than other ones just by reading a forum but the hemis do have this feeling under certain conditions and if its something that is a characteristic no dealer is going to be able to do anything about. maybe at some point chrysler will come out with some update that will improve it.
