Front shocks replaced

I was washing the GC a couple weeks ago and noticed both front shocks were leaking fluid. I was a little surprised since I've only been off road once since owning it, bought in September '11, and I wouldn't consider the area I was off road to be harsh by any means. Anyway took it into the dealership and had them check it out. Had both front shocks replaced and now I get a kind of "thud" noise over rough roads. I'll have to take it back and make sure they tightened everthing up correctly since I have no faith in dealerships.

First off I wanted to see if anyone else had this problem and if there was any noticed difference after the replacement as far as noise. I would like to replace the stock shocks with Bilstein 5100's but I don't think they make them for the 2011 GC yet. I'm planning on getting the 2.5" Rocky Road lift and would like to replace the stock front shocks at the same time. Also anyone with the rear load leveling suspension use the rocky road lift yet? I wanted to confirm that it works with the load leveling shocks like it claims on their website.

Thanks

Interesting - I had the same problem. I noticed a pool of fluid on my garage floor and dropped it off a the dealership yesterday. They confirmed it was the front left shock and replaced it. I also had my seat back replaced (TSB for faulty clips) and my key fob replacement (TSB for bad key fobs).

That makes 4 issues in less than a year of ownership for me. I expected a few with a first model year. I hope this is it...

I also am leaking fluid on front left shock. Right side is fine but the also wanted to replace it. It's on order now.

On my Commander, I have had the left side replaced once and the right side replaced twice. I have less than 35,000 miles on it and it has only done very light off roading.

It may be time for Jeep to look for a new supplier.

Re: Front shocks replaced

Glad I got both done at the same time. The left was leaking bad and the right had stains where dirt collected from where it had leaked. The dealer was only going to replace the left one but I told them to look again and replace both.

Has anyone who has had them replaced noticed any more noise from the front? I get an almost thud type noise on rough roads or when hitting a bump while turning. Didn't do it before the change out.

I'll report back any noise when mine get done next week.

I had my rear Passenger Side shock replaced due to a leak and a thud. I sitll get a thud or rattle in the rear.

I have not noticed any additional noises since replacing mine. Will report back if things change.

Got mine replaced. Feels stiffer. No sounds.

Maybe off topic.. I'm a big german engineered fan. on my 4 door wrangler.. at like 20,000 miles.. I wanted new shocks and a weekend.. project.. I ordered bilsteins made for my jeep.. yellow-blue boot..looked amazing..

The bad.. the jeep rocked side to side, and felt like an old stage coach.. if I hadn't thrown away my OEM shocks.. I'd have put them back on. the OEM shocks are much stiffer.

I traded it in for a WK2.

do some research before you go outside of OEM, not sure what brand they use, but the fancy bilsteins.. were not good.

Airborne

I am in the same situation I had a leaking shock.

Now I have this hollow thud sound when I hit a bump after they replaced the shock.

What did yours turn out to be?

Thanks!
