Gibson ehaust leak.. common?
Hello all,

I recently installed the Gibson stainless steel exhaust on my 5.7L.

On the pipe that goes over the axle, there is a minor exhaust leak. All of the pipes fit very well but that one. It is just a tad larger and does not seal completely. I have the clamp on there as tight as I dare tighten it.

Is this common? Is it going to be an issue? I have only had the exhaust on there a day and I can see there there is some residue leaking from the pipe and running down it (black carbon).

Shouldn't be an issue as it is pretty far back.

What clamps are you using? If you are not using TorcTite exhaust clamps get them. I have used a breaker bar to tighten them and haven't broke one yet.

You can also use a copper exhaust spay sealer before you slip the pieces together and then clamp it with a TorcTite.

All in all I bet the carbon will fill the void after a bit though.

Your choice really as I don't see it causing an issue.

Why not go to an exhaust shop to get it welded together?

I have the same exhaust and I don't have any leaks.
