Rain sensing wipers are not working

I noticed today my rain sensing wipers are not working. I did go into the settings to make sure they were on and they were. I did just have my windshield tinted with 50% tint which is very light and from what I could see it does not look like the sensor would be affected by having the windshield tinted. It looks like there is two sensors behind the mirror, one which kinda looks like a camera that faces forward and one that is a little square box that faces up. Could anyone tell me if having the windshield tinted would affect the rain sensing wipers or could the sensor be bad.

I have tint on my windshield too and it doesn't effect anything. To turn on your automatic windshield wipers you need to TURN the switch ONE Click and it will operate. Have you been doing that?

Ya. I have tried all four clicks. From what I have read the the further you go up in clicks the more sensitive it gets.

Re: Rain sensing wipers are not working

Has the rain sensing feature ever worked for you previously? If not, it could be because rain sensing hasn't been enabled in your EVIC.

From the manual:

Wiper Mode — If Equipped
When this feature is selected, the system will automatically
activate the windshield wipers if it senses moisture
on the windshield. To make your selection, press and
release the SELECT button until a check-mark appears
next to the feature showing the system has been activated
or the check-mark is removed, showing the system has
been deactivated. When this feature is deactivated, the
system reverts to the standard intermittent wiper
operation.

Re: Rain sensing wipers are not working

The sensors on the mirror have nothing to do with the wipers. I believe the rain sensor is built into the windshield glass (not sure about that). There may be a wire connector from the windshield, going into a harness, that came loose. Have the dealer troubleshoot it.

"The Rain Sensor module is located on the inside of the windshield, between the rear view mirror mounting button and the windshield header and is concealed behind a molded plastic trim cover that snaps over the module housing."

Re: Rain sensing wipers are not working

Just throwing this out there, but the instruction manual stated not to use Rain-X or any other type of liquid that repels rain. It causes the sensor to not work.

I thought my rain sensing wipers didn't work too, but it does work. Just leave your wipers on the first, second or third click. Eventually it'll kick in and the wipers will move randomly, so that's how you know it's working. If it wiped every few seconds consistently the of course it didn't work.

Took it to the dealer today and they said it was a bad sensor. They ordered the part and said it should be there in a few days. I was using Rain-X as well but even though that was not the problem I will not put any more on near the sensor. Thanks for the help.

my windshield wipers (rain sensing) 2011 Grand Cherokee limited, working even when not raining. wipers come on randomly(no rain, sunny) there are no bugs on the windshield to affect sensors. Anyone having the same problem??
