Traction Control & ABS Light

Today well driving in 4 inches of fresh snow I was forced to brake harder then I would have liked (guy in on coming lane, lost it and crossed over in front of me and ended up in the ditch). After the near miss I noticed my traction control and ABS light both on and solid. They remained on for the remainder of my trip (about 5 miles) until I got home.

After shutting the vehicle of and restarting they turned off. I would think this is not normal however I wanted to ask they professionals ;)

I actually had mine come on but in a different situation. I was doing a long technical descent using hill descent control. All of a sudden the abs light came on, hill descent went off.... I realized that I had no abs functionality... stopped the car, restarted it, and it worked fine....

Kinda weird.....

hmmm strange I am hoping that my ABS is not a one time shot ;) it would suck to have to restart every time after it is used especially in this weather we are having.

I had a similar problem driving in sand, the ESC light came on and stayed on. I am pretty sure the wheel speed sensor got blocked up and so the ESC becomes non functional. Not sure about ABS but I imagine it uses the same sensor. Once the snow melts and clears the sensor it is fine again. For me it took crossing a fresh water stream to resolve the warning light.

Re: Traction Control & ABS Light

I hope this was a one time fluke as I do a lot of snow driving in the winter. I would consider this a major flaw if the ABS sensor could easily get blocked by snow as this is when it is needed most.

Update:

Jeep stated that it had a bad ABS module.

May I ask how this was verified? Reading the error code @ the dealer?

Well, just to throw it out there...my 11' M3 just had a faulty ABS wheel sensor replaced.

Made all sorts of dash warnings come on.
