Stuck eff'in clevis bolt
I've searched and seen various other folks suffering this same fate.

I've got to replace my driver's front axle shaft. I'm doing a couple of things all at once. The axle, the brake rotors (stillens), pads and the front shocks. I can do all of it (and would be done with it by now) except for the axle because the damned bolt holding the clevis fork into the lower control arm is STUCK.

I've tried a 3' breaker bar and an electric impact wrench... no love. The bolt head just WILL NOT LOOSEN.

Just how much thread is there on this bolt? Is it threaded through the clevis at just the nut end? Or are there also threads up under the head? I'm wondering which side it's stuck on, the head, the nut or along the bolt shaft. If it's like a regular clevis bolt there are threads just on the nut end, into the fork and then secured with a nut. Is that how this one works too?

HALP! I'd like to get this back on the road. Preferably without having to drop the whole LCA and take it to a shop.

So what's the recommended route for getting this little bastard loose?

i had to use a large pipe over the end of a wratchet to get it off

I had a hell of a time getting mine off as well. It is only threaded at the end where the nut is. Once I got the nut broke free and off I had to use an air hammer for 20 minutes on each end of the bolt to get it out.

I managed to get the head to turn, just barely and with a 4' pipe extension on the ratchet. But that's because the sleeves are turning inside the bushings. Clearly, the bolt shaft is stuck inside the sleeves inside the bushings. And now that they turn that pretty much means the bushings are toast. So if I can't get it out with a bit of heat applied today I'm going to just cut it off.

Is there a way to get those bushings back into the LCA while it's still in the vehicle? I'm better the inner bolts are just as likely to be seized and would rather avoid trying to get them out.

No luck finding replacements locally so I'll have to overnight some. I'm going to get the passenger side loose (or try to) to see if I need those as well.

edit: passenger side is likewise stuck. But thankfully I don't have to remove it as I'm only replacing the strut, and that can be done without removing the clevis fork.

No luck getting it loose today, so I pulled the whole LCA out. Thankfully the frame bolts came loose with just some breaker bar leverage.

Not thrilled about chinese made stuff but looks like the mevotech MS25170 or Raybestos 507-1651 from rockauto are about the least painful way to get this back on the road quickly. Called Raybestos and they indicated it comes with all bushings and the ball joint. Near as I can tell, so does the Mevotech. That's a pretty decent price considering the bushings alone are that much.

$180, overnighted if I get the mevotech. Shipping on the raybestos is about triple (from a different warehouse). And I still have to get the bolt too if I have to cut it off. What an eff'ng pain in the butt.

Oy, all this just because the factory was too cheap to use decent materials for a simple bushing sleeve. Of course, having the italians own them does make me feel any better either...

I gave it one last try with some pickle forks (and a whole lotta hammering) and it would not budge. I managed to find the bolt and nut at a dealer a few counties away. Not as cheap as online, but I got a left/right set of them (for when the right eventually needs it) for $25. Now I'm just waiting on rockauto's overnight shipment of the LCA.
