Speed Governor - How to Remove or Disable

I recently discovered that my 2012 V8 WK2 has a Speed Governor that kicks in at a measly 110 Mph. :o

Has anyone discovered how to either disable or modify it?

Gonna need a tuner for that

#1 - I would make sure your tires are replaced. The limiter is there for the tires, not for me and you wanting to drive 110+ MPH

#2 - A mod will be necessary, either software mod through a programmer. Or a hardware mod to turn off the sensor or modify its output. it kind of defeats the purpose when you can't see how fast you are going.

Old school was to disconnect the sensor, it throws a CEL and then you have no speedo. But it hauls @$$!!!

My 2000 V8 dakota hits 110 easily in 4th about mid rpm span, It will easily do 140 but cant get there due to limiter. I pulled the sensor wiring and was paced with my buddy down an interstate for reference, but totally killed the reality of not seeing how fast. Yes I do run high speed tires, not stock.

Yes, it sucks to have the V8 power and hit the speedo limiter while doing a burnout. Trust me. Then you drag race a 4cyl and get smoked after 100+mph

Tires, suspension and a tuner needed.

I know it will go faster, because when I had it flat out the speedo was climbing steady until 120, then ... just like that... it stopped climbing. :(
So based on the rate of climb, I'd say the engine still had lots left.

5500lbs + soft sloppy supsension + 106mph rated tires + stock brakes doing over 110 for a while = scene of suv crash/roll over

I would not want to sustain my wk2 over 100mph+ due to the above statement. As an engineer I understand the forces at work in a vehicle. I am a speed junkie as well as a normal sane person. I speed in a sports car, haul the groceries and 4x4 in the WK2, and hot rod around daily in my dakota, vibrating my neighbors.

I agree, who buys a grand Cherokee for speed? I suggest you to buy a sports car for speed.

Want to go fast in a GC, buy a srt8. Otherwise, it's suspension, tires and programming. Cheaper and safer to get the srt8.

Re: Speed Governor - How to Remove or Disable

it is a personal choice to go faster or not than the speed governor. The same truck with no suspension or other modicications in europe has a higher speed limiter than the one the US has.
