Best tutorial for reverse HID's?

I drive a 2007 Commander and my reverse lights are horrible, so I'm thinking about putting HID's in the taillights. Is there any reason I shouldn't? What's your favorite tutorial and the best parts I could use? And is there another tutorial that would show me how to wire in a relay so I'd have a switch to turn them on whenever I want?

Thanks,
Sanders

I appreciate the link. So you're saying 07 Cherokee lights will double over to mine?

Just a heads up...HID's are awesome but they do take some time to warm up and they absolutely hate lots of on-off cycles. Everytime you put it into gear, you'll be passing by "R" and the rear lights will flash. Same thing when you go into park.

So basically, you'll wear them out quickly, and if they take a few seconds to warm up, the output isn't optimal right away. I was able to convert a set of WJ tails to use halogen headlight bulbs for reverse lights and that helped A LOT. No warm up time, no wear concerns, and if you need to replace one, it's cheap and easy.

Just a suggestion....

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ HID kits are cheap .....I had them in my reverse for 2 years without an issue. '

OP the tricky part is adapting the bulb. you basically take the part that now hold the bulb, drill it out in center so it fits OVER the HID bulb. then silicopane it in place and VIOLA HID REVERSE.,

I guess "cheap" has a different definition for different folks...

This is why I post! Thanks man, I GREATLY appreciate that advice. Do you have links to a tutorial or parts?

Re: Best tutorial for reverse HID's?

You're very welcome...unfortunately, I have no links for you, but all I did was buy a 3157 bulb socket at my local Advanced, and a plug/harness that fits the headlight bulb I wanted to use. I also bought some 2 part epoxy. I hollowed out the 3157 socket (I think I used a hole saw) and then epoxied the headlight bulb to it. Once it set up, I spliced my vehicle's 3157 socket with the headlight socket I bought and just plugged it in. My bulb never blew so I never had to worry about replacing it, but if it were to blow, I'd likely have to buy a new 3157 socket and a new headlamp bulb and spend another 1/2 hour and $10 on this, but a regular halogen bulb should last a very long time considering how short a period of time your reverse lights are ever on. Here are the only pics I have of what I did:

So as far as connection goes, it connects exactly like the stock lights? no splicing, ballasts, etc?
