Modding my 5.7L

So the other day when I was replacing my EGR, cleaning the TB, and doing the Taylor shorty mod, the mod bud hit me HARD. Unfortunately, I'm poor, but long story short, I'm going to be doing some intake/exhaust mods and wanted advice.

Upon searching, I found an purchased a WK SRT8 airbox assembly (minus the snorkel) which I'll be retrofitting to my WK. I already have the K&N drop-in so I'll probably be adding a breather tube to my existing box and porting it to the front grill and then just installing the SRT8 "arm" portion of the assembly. If anyone has an extra SRT8 snorkel laying around, I'll buy it

So here's the question, what's the most cost effective exhaust mod that I can do for my HEMI? I'd like to get some sound, as well as performance since the intake system will now have a lot less restriction. I can't really afford a cat back, so I'm thinking a magnaflow/flowmaster muffler and delete the resonator?

Input appreciated in advance.

Nice avatar :jump:

I think some of the 5.7 guys remove their muffler and keep the resonator....either that or the other way around.

It doesn't take much work or money to get the 5.7s moving.

Hmm, hopefully some of those guys will chime in and let me know what's up and/or have a sound clip.

Upon further research, this is about what I'm looking for I think. Any thoughts? (20" powerstick to replace muffler and keep stock resonator)

Powersticks do sound good however I question how well they flow. Also don't care for how they are made of aluminized steel.

Both good points, I would prefer SS, but then again, the stock system isn't SS lol.

I got my Gibson cat-back from amazon for $300 shipped. Might be more then you want to spend, but it was much cheaper then I expected.

Are these the ones you're talking about?

http://www.amazon.com/Gibson-17403-S...7021496&sr=1-1

http://www.amazon.com/Gibson-617403-...7021615&sr=8-1

If so, they're not $300 shipped anymore. Even the aluminized one is $400 shipped. :(

Also, on a side note, wouldn't a cat-back require a programmer like a DiabloSport to run efficiently?

Thanks.

The stock system is SS, however a different grade.

DS is NOT required, however, it's a great mod for the money, much more effective then simply swapping in a muffler. By the time you buy, ship, and have a muffler welded up, you're halfway towards a used Predator and a tune.

Amazon evidently jacked up their prices. MVP auto parts has it for a little over $350 shipped. However, a DS tuner and Ryan's tune give you much more bang for the buck.
