Auto dim side mirrors & front side window tinting question

If I use an 18% tint on my front side windows, for my '12 Overland, am I going to have any issues at all with the side dimming mirrors?

I'd never heard of this happening before and I want to make sure before I get the tinting finally done next week.

Appreciate your words of wisdom.

Also, once windows are tinted, what is the best way to care for them as far as cleaning?

Mine are 20% and I do not have a problem. I am actually having it redone at 5% since 20% is too light. The front windshield lets a lot of light in.

Do not use Ammonia based window cleaner on aftermarket tinted windows. Anything else should be fine.

BlueLodge, do you think the 5% is going to be a better match in neutral light (cloudy, at night, etc?). I would just like it to match but have utility too, like what you are thinking about.

I had 5% on my old car, and be aware that it is very dark, specially at night time. I wouldnt recommend it for drivers and passenger windows. Rear is fine due to the reverse camera etc.

5% will get you tickets....... 20% will match perfectly and still let in enough light

20% should match. But it will still be pretty light.
You shouldnt run into any problems with the police at 20%. 5% might get some looks.

Lemon Pledge recommended by my tint installer to clean. It's worked great on my last 5 vehicles. The window glides smoothly over the inside seal, thereby reducing the likelyhood of the rubber, felt whatever scratching the tint.

Tint the windshield with 35% or 50% and the sides at 20%. With the windshield tinted it makes the side windows look a lot darker than what they are because you don't have all the light coming through the windshield.

I ended up using Optical Technology OT-Black Series at 20% - so far it appears to be a great factory match. I am waiting for it to dry further before taking pictures.
