caliper pistons cracked!
The driver side caliper pistons have some serious chipping. Enough that I'm worried the seal might fail. So I'm going to replace them. That and I discovered one of the pins was totally without lube and had rusted up a fair bit inside the bracket. Enough that I'm concerned the inside of that hole is rusted up enough to be a problem for a new pin.

So, looks like I'll probably just replace the whole caliper and bracket. I notice rockauto sells complete kits for this. Anyone have strong opinions for/against any particular brand of brake caliper? I'm only planning on replacing the driver side caliper as the passenger side didn't appear to have any problems.

I could be convinced to do both if there's an upgrade the would get me better braking without changing the rims.

I just got a new pair of Stillen front rotors and pads. So I'm not inclined to have to replace those.

Re: caliper pistons cracked!
To follow up, I did replace the calipers. But I'm not all that thrilled with the Stillen rotors. They tend to make a slight amount of 'rippling' kind of noise at low speeds, as if the pads are dragging on the slots/dimples. I'm seriously considering swapping them back out for regular surface rotors.

Re: caliper pistons cracked!
did you "bed" them in?

Re: caliper pistons cracked!
Both were new from stillen and I followed the included instructions.

Stopping is 'ok' but nothing to rave about. But they do seem to handle stop/go and long downhills better. While producing a lot more dust in the process. It's just that light click sound that's annoying. That and it sounds like I'm about due to replace them.

For a specific situation that might require them, sure, these might be nice. But for daily driver tasks they're not what I'd recommend. I plan on just switching back to solid rotors (possibly some AC/Delco durastop rotors). Pads TBD.

Re: caliper pistons cracked!
Ditched the stillens, they eat through pads way too fast.

Re: caliper pistons cracked!
Thanks for the heads up I was going to get stillen but noise from brakes would piss me off. I may get solid ones too.
