Tell me what you have heard...

About Amsoil or synthetics in general/ I would like to address myths and or your concerns. Also if you are currently using the products, please let me know how you like them. Look forward to hearing from you!

From what I hear is that it's good oil and lasts a long time. I personally don't really care for it. I just go with regular Mobile 1 oil. I change it every 2500.

Sythetics in general? Good stuff and some is worth the $$$. Amsoil in particular? Not so much.

Not so much like you haven't heard much or you don't like it?

I have amsoil synthetic tranny fluid atf +4 compliant apparently and no issues whatsoever.

Re: Tell me what you have heard...

Not so much in that I just don't like the whole amsoil marketing strategy and tend to stick with other more readily available fluids & lubes. I guess there's always a possibility that everything amsoil sells is head and shoulders above every other brand but I haven't the desire to find out really. ;)

I tend to run Mobil1 or Castrol GTX oil, mopar atf+4 in the newer chrysler trannies, mopar tc fluid in the QDI and II tcases, valvoline's durablend merc/dex in AW4 trannies and the NP231 and 242 tcases and Mobil1 gear lube in the diffs. Has been working real well for me the last few decades and I see no real reason to change.

Re: Tell me what you have heard...

I've used Amsoil for years in my vehicles. I notice it doesn't get dirty as quickly as other brands. There was a sporting goods store in town that sold it, but they've since gone out of business. I became a preferred customer and get it from their warehouse near Portland, OR. Get a good discount, same as dealer, but no kickback checks if I had become a dealer. Anyway, I like Amsoil.

Re: Tell me what you have heard...

By the way, I am looking to put out some informative posts that will allow you make your own decisions about fluids & filters. I have some great research on filters, including about 25 filters, of different brands, cut open so you can see the differences for yourselves.
I am not hear to shove Amsoil down anyone's throat or fall into the typical MLM profile. I will offer discounts off of retail for any JeepGarage members. Just let me know what you are intersted in.
You can visit my website anytime www.syntheticlubestore.com
Thanks for the opportunity, Gabe

Re: Tell me what you have heard...

Ok I got one for you.. I mentioned in a transmission fluid thread that I had replaced my transmission fluid with Amsoil ATF +4 ... apparently it's not on Chrysler's list of certified fluids. Why is that and why shouldn't I worry about having it in my Jeep right now? I replaced it at 50k and I've put over 4k miles on it since.

Re: Tell me what you have heard...

Gary-2005 Jeep WK Ok lets start here bought my Jeep new Grand Chorkee Hemi.Got my first oil change at the dealer free part of buying a new Jeep from them.So now i broken in the engine 7,500 miles and now i can do my own oil changes.I been using Mobile 1 for years and had no issiues with that oil.Getting my Jeep ready for the up comeing snowmobile season i changed to Moble 1 as i always did with my other cars. You should know that all OEM oiled supplied to the manf. had had most of the chemicals removed because after 100,000 miles the ate up the convertors on you car this is what our goverment said anyways, they rarely did so they removed what made the oil very slippery. Now lets get back to my oil change.Put in Mobile 1 and did my uasual drive up north to the U.P. of michigan and what i noticed was a drop in fule economy.Stunned by this and couldnt figure it out I talked to my brother in law a retired engineer from Chrysler.Thats when he informed me what they did to any oil they put in cars from the factory. Also was informed that what they consider aftermarket oils like royal purple and im sure others the goverment couldnt affect how they made there oil.Seeing it was winter and wasnt going to change my oil myself i went to a instant oil change place ahd them put in Valvoline Sin.Oil and a week later took a trip up north to go snowmibling and got my mileage back. How much did i loose changing to mobile 1 ? Was enough to notice one and a half miles per. gallon.SO from what i experianced i use rolay perple 2-20 in my Jeep and love it.I cant speak to any other oils on the market because i havent tried all of them. But know this if the oil comes from the factory our goverment has a say in whats in it.
Thanks Gary
