Audio Upgrade on Laredo

Have many or any of you guys upgraded the stereo on a stock Laredo?

I have seen a few people with Overlands that come with a stock amp and sub doing it. My car doesnt have a stock amp or sub, just the 430 H/U which i would like to keep for now.

So im thinking it should be a bit easier since i don't have to worry about buggering around with the stock amp.

My plan is 6.5" splits in front doors, or maybe front and rear. Thinking Focals or similar, and then later on a small sub in the boot. Powered by a 5ch amp, maybe alpine PDX or somthing.

I am used to running RCAs from Headunits to amp, does the 430 Headunit have any RCA outputs or am i going to need line converters or somthing like that?

I asked one installer and he said "Id get myself an amplifier with a high-level input and then swap the front speakers out. Fully deaden and diffuse the front doors and away you go. :D"

So, ideas? Experiences? etc

Your OE HU will not have RCAs. I'm pretty sure you still have a factory amp -- even though you don't have a sub. The safest route, would be a PAC C2A-CHY2 or something similar to integrate an aftermarket amp. You can possibly tap into the speaker wires before the OE amp for a high-level signal. I haven't tried high-level inputs on an amp in years. But when I have, it never produced desired results, and I always went with a LOC.

So the PAC interface basically can be used to convert the high level inputs to RCA instead for my amp? i havn't used a PAC device before.

Where would i locate the factory amp? Or find any info about it?

There's no factory amp in the stock Laredo, or as mentioned, RCA jacks. You will get a noticable difference just replacing the speakers.

I added one of those mini flat subs from Crutchfield paired to a Line Out Converter. It was kind of a PIA to install because you have to pull the head unit and tap into the speaker wires as well as connect to the battery under the seat. The problem with adding an after market sub is there's no place to put it. If I had to do it over again, I would probably pony up the extra money for the upgraded sound system.

Anyway, start with the speakers, it's an easy install (you'll need to drill a couple of mounting holes for the rear speakers). You should be happy with the results. I went with Boston Acoustics, and they sound fantastic!

Thanks mate,
Yeah im thinking upgrade the speakers to some Bostons or some Focals, and then when i can be bothered running cables etc, hook up a Line Converter and a 4 or 5 ch amp.

Ive replaced my stock radio with an alpine deck and put an amp and sub in back from my other car. I used a PAC interface to install radio and steering wheel controls. Since I am leasing jeep I am not replacing speakers. Ive had no problems with it and I installed it.

I will be upgrading the stock (crappy) 130 radio on my Laredo with a double-din dvd receiver in the next 3-4 weeks. I plan on taking pictures of the whole process so that others can follow in my footsteps.

Here's what I have coming (ordered earlier this week from Crutchfield):

-Pioneer AVH-P2400BT (DVD receiver)
-Pioneer GEX-P920XM (XM Satellite Tuner)
-PAC C2R-CHY4 (Chrysler Radio Replacement Interface)
-PAC SWI-PS (Steering wheel control interface)
-Metra 2011+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Double-DIN In-dash Receiver Kit
-Antenna adapter

Should be fun:D

Speakers? Should be at the top of your list.

Yeah...but that setup is costing me 600$ with shipping. Quite the hole in my pocket after that. Speakers will be later on.

Any reason you put 6x9 in the front? Is it just because that is what is already in there and didnt wanna make a bracket up?
