Looking to buy 05-06 limited hemi. Things to look for

I'm looking to spend around 13k, I've heard some horror stories about the chrysler engines having issues around 100,000 miles. My dad works for aftermarket warranty companies that are saying all the "7" (3.7, 4.7, 5.7) engines show different failures. Broken valve springs, rods fracturing, ect.

How worried should I be about buying a 06 limited with like 80k on clock?

Thanks!

WHen buying any car just make sure andcheck if it's been in any accidents andkept up with maintaince. I have an 05' Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7L and I have 142k on the clock. It's running great and feels great everytime. I baby it.

Everytime I buy a car I change all the fluids and give it a tune up myself if there is no paperwork.

I believe they are very reliable cars if kept up. Hope this helps you.

I have a 2005 5.7 Limited with 150+k on the clock, motor still runs great.

I think many of the common issues you see with these trucks are people not performing the necessary maintenance, or not performing it properly.

These vehicles require special weight motor oil, power steering fluid, transfer case fluid, axle additives, etc., etc., etc....I think a lot of people do not know how picky they really are about these sorts of things (and that's if they know they even have a transfer case!).

Basically, if they have been properly maintained I would say they are no less reliable than any other comparatively priced and capable vehicle.

Lol. Fair enough. I know it's 5w20 motor oil after I purchase it and probably Royal purple maybe redline.
I will have the vehicle gone over by an inspector before I purchase anything, but anything I need to focus on before purchase?

Oh, btw, I have graduated a automotive tech school with a 4.0 and have been in the automotive field for about 10 years, just fairly new to the wk platform in regards to it's weakness.

Thanks again!!!!!

the '05's seem to have a few more electrical "qwirks" then the rest. some seem to have a few difficulties with tuners, and update flashes.. try and get them to make sure all the flashes/updates are done whatever the year. I have an '05 hemi, just turned 135k, other then maint items,i've had to replace the oil press sensor, front diff bushings, the starter, and a wheel sensor. the water pump is also seeping a little now. not to bad really.

Go with an '06; the '05 has spark plug wires while the 06 is coil on plug ignition. Make sure you get full maint, records, as there are a lot of known problems with the WK, some are costly to fix, like leaking trans cooler lines, broken front diff mounts, etc.. Those were both bad at 35k on mine, as well as many other issues.

What do you think the most known issues I should look for. I know it should have had 5w20 the whole time. what else?

Re: Looking to buy 05-06 limited hemi. Things to look for

Leaking trans cooler lines, broken front diff mounts, bad shocks, bad endlinks are all very common. A higher mileage hemi wothout a catch can will have a huge build up of crud on the intake mani and TB. ALso, important that front and rear diff fluids, trans and transfer case fluids changed at proper intervals, If the previoous owner did all the regular maint, there should be reciepts for proof of it. I would pass if there are no records.

Really, wow. I figured same viscosity and lubricity would be ok. What high end oils have been used ok? Redline or anything like that?
