Lower Ball Joints
 
Just had my Grand Cherokee for its Annual road test. Been told it requires a lower ball joint replacing (had noticed Knocking sound over bumps/potholes)
Is this a fairly straight forward job to do?
It looks like I need to remove bottom arm,then circlip then press out old joint. Install lower joint,circlip bolt up arm then job done!
Is it that straight forward?

Yes pretty sure but ask for someone to check the FSM because Im not 100% positive that they are serviceable :/ worst case you may need entire CA but I dont think that's the case.

It is a rather straightforward process, if nothing is rusted together and you have the right tools:

1) Remove wheel
2) Remove brake & rotor
3) Disconnect tie rod from steering knuckle (special tool)
4) Separate upper ball joint from knuckle (special tool)
5) Separate lower ball joint from knuckle (special tool)
6) Remove steering knuckle
7) Chisel out ball joint stakes
8) Press ball joint from LCA (special tool)

Reverse and voila!

If you have the 4WD, you'll also have to support the half-shaft after you remove the steering knuckle so it doesn't get damaged.

its pretty easy
i put moog lower ball joints in mine that are greaseable

hardest part was figuring out the ball joint tool for installing

autozone let you borrow the tool for free (credit card charge and then refunded)

prety much the same process but i would do it with elbow grease


one tip that made it easier for me was removing the whole strut and having a friend (that knucle is heavy)
