Tire Life

On the 20 inch tires on my 011' GC Overland, what type of tire life should I expect to get? What is the real world experience?

Not sure about 20's but I thought the fortera's in 17's were a 60k mile tire. I would assume that it's at least close in the 20" model tire.

I know a lot of people dont like the Fortera's==but I must be honest--2011 GC and 31000 miles---they are good and still look good

My Forteras have held up well after 35,000 miles. I say I have at least 15k more out of them.

Do you rotate them?

Tire life really only depends on YOU the driver. If you drive hard and fast, the life is going to go down, if you drive it easy, then the life is going to go up. Along with rotating them every 6K miles or so.

Yep, and be sure to have the lugs torqued to 110 ft lbs.

I rotate my tires every oil change which is approx every 8k. I also Tq the lugs to 110.

I figured the OEM Forturas would be a cheap set of tires as par for most new vehicles but go online at different tire stores and the Fortura (17 inch rim) is one of the most expensive tire you can buy. I know price doesn't always relate to mileage but hopefully I can get close to that 60k mark.

Re: Tire Life

Reason for Question: I have owned several GC's since new over the years. The original tires on by 93' went 70K before the fronts wore out and at that point the rears were still good for another 10K miles. Similar experience with my 99' and 04' but original front tires were good for about 50K. I never rotated the tires ever on the 93', 99' or 04'. My 011' only has about 9K on it. Tires visually look fine but a friend has an 011" Overland with about 20K and he says one of his is down to the wear bars. I did an on line search before the post and did not find anyone commenting on bad tire life and the responses so far would suggest people are getting at least 30K on their tires with the prospect of 50K. Still would be interesting to hear from any high mileage owners experiences.

Of course it depends on your driving style to a major degree. But I have noticed one thing having owned 4WD and now AWD (WK2 and Volvo XC-70) vehicles since 1971. AWD tends to eat tires faster than 4WD. On 4WD you can lock out the front axle making front wheels "free wheeling".
