replacing brake pads on the SRT!
 
What are a good set of pads to run for street use that don't produce a lot of dust
?( stockers are terrible as far as brake dust goes )

send a PM to r1concepts....they sell Stoptech pads for the SRt's that are excellent!

I'm running Stoptechs with R1 rotors and am happy over all with the performance of them and reduced brake dust, still get brake dust but not as bad as before with the stockers. I also ran the Bendix MKD 1149 and felt that they where pretty much just like the stockers but for less $$$$

Bendix MKD 1149-- Very similiar to stock in every facet. Rumor has it that Bendix makes the pads for our Brembos at a price less than the dealers. I believe these pads cross reference to the LX vehicles in case you look them up and do see them for the Jeep. I would buy these again if I had to but there are better options around the price point which is $100 or below. They held up good at the track. Still had 1/2 left when I returned home.

Hawk HPS-- Worse than stock stopping power. Great for all the less dust guys. These have to be the worst pads I have had so far. It didn't matter if they were warm or cold, they just didn't stop very well. I would not buy these again either but that is due to the increased stopping distances. I know R1 concepts like recommending them but I don't.

StopTech-- Better than stock stopping power. Less dust than stock but not less than or equal to the Hawk HPS. These pads from the moment I went to bed them, I was shocked. I always bed my brakes in the same area and know where I usually had to stop to get to the stop sign. Time and time again I was stopping (not a complete stop) well before the sign. At the track it was the same deal. I could go deeper into the corners than I have ever been before. They held up well with 1/2 the pads left after the track. I would buy these again, in fact, I have bought a full set for my next change.

I hope this helps with some options for the guys wanting to make a change.
Also, none of my pads have ever squealed so I am not the one to ask about noise. I think that my driving style is a lot different than most on here so that would be the main reason. I also experimented with my last change by not using any anti squeal on any of the pads(front/rear) and the only time I get any noise is in reverse and stopping really slowly(5-0mph).

I was thinking hawk all the way but after reading that I'm not sure now lol

That is for the wk1, sorry I didn't catch the wk2 part but would imagine similar results. I'm sure the wk2 uses different pads/part number.

Contact R1 for whats available

Good info. Still, many people swear by the Hawk pads, even the CTS-V guys so I'm not sure I would hesitate to try them.

Screw the dust. Don't sacrifice stopping power for dust. You have one of the best braking rigs out there, don't forget the mass it's stopping too. Out brakes all the other SRT8s. Keep the stock setup. A little dust never hurt anyone ;)

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but having just taken delivery within the last week the first thing I've noticed is the horrible brake dust.

I feel compelled to reply to mongoose, you don't need to sacrifice stopping power in the name of reduced brake dust. Typically factory brake compounds are done to maximize both stopping power and noise, it's the noise issue that is typically why we end up with pads that have a high amount of organic material, which is usually what causes the dust. The reason most European sports cars have noisy brakes is they were designed for maximum stopping power, noise be damned. This lead to a higher metallic content which causes more brake noise, something American drivers will spend hours at the dealer complaining about.

With the advent of carbon ceramic compounds you can have both the enormous stopping power and quiet brakes that also do not dust much. I've used Performance Products ceramic pads on a number of high performance cars over the last decade and have been very impressed. I'm hoping them or others like Hawk start making pads for the WK2 SRT8 soon.

Just to be sure, you are saying you care about stopping power and dust but don't care about the 'squeal'?

My RS6 squealed like a stuck pig, WK1 SRT/8 squealed like a piglet after a short while. WK2... No squeal yet and stops better than both of them by far. Give me Stopping power first, no squeal second, dust a distant third.
