strange steering column, brake pedal issue

I've noticed lately that the brake pedal feels loose, like there is some play as I put my foot on it, and it makes this thunking noise which seems to be getting worse. I know I can just take it in and have them fix it, but the more annoying part of this is that in some instances, as I'm approaching a stop, and I am in the act of depressing the brake, if I hit some bumps as this is happening, I can feel the bumps knocking on the steering wheel column, like its become loose for a second or so and causes this brief rattle and I can feel it with my hands. It's weird. I already know they have to be able to replicate the issue to be able to diagnose it, which is the problem. I can't always make it do it. Does anyone else have this issue? Do you know what is making it happen so I can see if it's what is going on with mine, and thus will be able to replicate the problem for them? I'm going in later for my next free oil change and I wanted them to fix this problem while they have it. They still haven't fixed the "something is engaging" feeling a second after you hit the gas peddle issue either. Anyone know what that's about? Is this all related?

Similar problem with my brake pedal I turned the HSA (hill start assist) off and it seemed to go away. BTW I have a Overland Summit

I still have this issue after having the entire steering column replaced, dealer said a couple of other Grand's did it so it must be normal. It's one of the reasons I'm getting rid of this Jeep, even my door panels creak when coming to a stop and I don't feel it will hold up long term.

There was a TSB on the steering column, some had play in a fitting that would cause rattles and such, especially at full lock. You may want to check out the TSB folder and use the same language for your problem when you talk to the dealer. You may not need to replicate the problem... but then again the column replace may not fix your issue....

The tsb was for the intermediate steering shaft. This was a thud or bump when stopping or over bumps or turning. As far as the steering column making noise the plastic that covers the column seems to be very thin. On mine just pushing on the column causes the plastic to squeak.

Thanks everyone. The TSB you guys described is what I'm experiencing. I'll go to the listing again and get the TSB code and walk the service guys through it. I didn't think to check the service bulletins. Good forum, great members. Thanks again everyone.

BTW, I still love the WK2. I could have $20K in problems and still come out less then the Mercedes ML I was going to get. I figured there would be some small issues to deal with on a brand new model.
