Matt's DIY CAI (5.7l HEMI)

Well, here she is. This thing is a freakin' monster, lol. Intake is over 4" inside diameter.

**The goal here was not to go for show, so don't ask why I didn't paint it. I never open my hood to look at my CAI tube. When I open my hood I am changing the pol or performing other maintenance, or the occasional spray down.

I have to thank Matt (mzh29) for a lot of help and pics as he has also done his own intake. His thread can be seen here (link).

Supplies (total cost: $85 shipped)

  • Amsoil EaAU 4060 dry air filter
  • 3"-4" coupler
  • 90 degree 4" PVC
  • 3) 45 degree 4" PVC
  • 180 degree 4" PVC
  • PVC cement
  • 90 degree 1/2 screw type nipple
  • 4" ring/plumbers strap mounting bracket

Construction

  • Went together pretty damn smoothly. Just measured, made my cuts, mocked it up, and then glued it.
  • After cutting, I sanded the piping, cleaned them, then dried them.
  • I used a 1/2" drill bit to make an opening for the IAT sensor (moved down about 6 inches from factory location.
  • I used a 1" drill bit to make an opening for the vacuum hose nipple mounting bracket.
  • I utilized the factory intake mounting bracket/hardware/bushing located near the coolant tank for my plumbers strap mounting bracket.

Not sure if I'm going to do a heat shield yet. A few pictures below you can see where the factory intake routing (behind the grill and through the opening next to the passenger side headlamp) was. I have a feeling there will be a lot of air flow/movement in between the filter and the engine. We'll see though.

I am planning on wrapping the tubing with DEI Cool Tape (link).

Oh, I didn't connect the IAT sensor because I wanted to let the cement cure overnight.

Pics!

Looks badass! What did you use to seal / attach the IAT and Vac Nipple?

No CEL or anything so far?

haha, I didn't even take it for a test drive, lol. I put 3k HID fogs in too and I still didn't feel like going for a drive. I didn't even rev it. I'll get a dose tomorrow morning. I'm mentally drained today.

Thanks!

For both attachments I used PVC cement. I'm going to monitor the seals and I do plan on dropping a line of silicone around each attachment.

Cool, I still don't have the balls to try something like this. I would probably blow my engine up doing some shit like that man!

I had a long day yesterday. 8 hours driving in a car in a total of 10 hours. Albeit it was a new BMW 750Li :D. Fawking seats are like 64-way adjustable.
