Testing TPS?
I think my TPS may be going out, but it is not throwing any codes. Does anyone know the correct process for testing the TPS before I buy a new one? Thanks!

Re: Testing TPS?
What is it doing that leads you to think it is failing?

Is the TPM indicator flashing at all?

It's a pretty smart system and should throw a DTC if something is not working properly (not saying that it isn't possible to, just unusual I would think).

For intermittent performance, my FSM simply states to check for TSBs, clear any codes, drive for 15min, and check for codes again.

Re: Testing TPS?
I am referring to the throttle position sensor, are you referring to the Tire pressure monitoring system?

I should have just spelled it out instead of being lazy!

Re: Testing TPS?
Ah yes! Not sure what I was thinking...too many acronyms I suppose - my advice would certainly only apply to the TPM system!

I'm not sure if there is a way to test the throttle position sensor apart from watching where the computer thinks it is, and the resultant RPM / vacuum combination - which is what the system should do anyway as a rationality check.

That being said, if you think it is malfunctioning I would just swap it - it's a $20 part I believe - or on the 3.7 does the whole throttle body have to be replaced?

Re: Testing TPS?
For those have you that have replaced a TPS what brand/where did you buy it? I know our Jeeps can be picky with sensors. I would prefer to not buy it at the stealership.
