Steering gearbox play
For quite some time i was feeling a little play in the steering wheel, but it is getting worse. Checked all related parts, but could only hear some noise coming out of the steering gearbox, which seems to have some play. Somebody already had this before and has replaced some internal parts of the steering gearbox. I saw on that several internal parts are available.
Any good or bad experiences on this repair?

Re: Steering gearbox play
Frank try giving the overcenter adjustment a turn or two in but just make sure that you don't get it too tight that the steering wheel doesn't bind when returning to center.

Re: Steering gearbox play
Hi Dave, i did try this when the problem started some year and a half ago, but at that time it didnīt change anything. At first i fastened it too much, causing the steering wheel not to return by itself. But now that the play is getting bigger, i will just give it another try.

Re: Steering gearbox play
hey frango, get someone to rock the steering sidr to side quite firmly with the engine off. check the steering box and all tie rod ends for should be pretty easy to spot. the only other thing it could be is your steering shaft on top of the box look at this also. good luck.
my box has a little wobble in the shaft that comes out the bottomof the box and has the pitman arm on it. some boxes have a bush here others have a bearing. let me know how you go.
