What brand of Gas?

Feel free to comment on octane too.

Exxon 87 octane, trying to avoid the "bob's backyard" type gas stations. Wawa is also not a bad choice, and they have good sandwiches :)

Re: What brand of Gas?

I typically use Holiday gas, they are big around here. Sometimes Kwik Trip too. I will try and find a Shell or BP if I am out of town. I avoid Super America or any dingy looking off brand station.

I typically use 89 octane now with my Superchips, used to use 87, but it seems to like 89 better and around here they sell them both for the same price at Holiday or Kwik Trip.

Primarily use Gulf as my Jeep dealer gives a discount to customers. Also use Stewarts which is not a brand, but a small local chain of convenience stores with great coffee.

Mobil/Exxon (same gas) worked fine in my 2010 M3 so I figure its good for the GC. It is a Top Tier gas. I would use Shell or Chevron, but they aren't as convenient for me to visit.

Re: What brand of Gas?

First off, it's worth noting that most brands of gasoline come through the same pipe to your local distributor. The only thing that makes them different are the additives, which are brand specific.

Some time ago BMW did a quiet certification program on gasoline brands, focusing mostly on the detergent additives. The winner was Chevron (Techron/Techroline) followed by Texaco (System 3), which has been replaced now that Chevron and Texaco are combined. Techron is patented, so other brands can't copy it exactly. (It's kind of a whispered thing, BMW didn't want to offend the other companies -- but if you talk to someone in the know at BMW NA they will quietly confirm it.)

I use whatever gas I need when my tank is low.

I go to ESSO (maybe its EXXON in the US).
Up here they give double AEROPLAN points. ;)

And I buy up in the country where its always 2 cents a litre cheaper than down in the city.
(on Thursday it was around $1.22 a litre, and $100.00 almost filled it)

Where I work in Mississauga, and where I drive through Brampton...
its currently $1.25 to $1.27 per litre.
Thats for regular gas (87 octane)
For mid-grade gas (89 octane) its $1.34 to $1.39 per litre.
