8 speed tranny? Dream on...

I see a lot of posts thinking an 8 spd tranny will be availible in the future....not gonna happen for the SRT8. The reasons are plenty....

1) It took hundreds of millions of dollars to design and build the current ZETA or what ever they call it 8-spd for the V6 applications in the CHY/Dodge line up, SRT8's are low volume vehicles the cost/return on investment is a BIG FACTOR for development and production of a very expensive Transmission.

2) The current 8-spd cannot handle the HP/TQ of the 5.7 HEMI let alone the 392 HEMI, there are several tech articles about the real world durability of the current 8-spd, again it cannot handle the 392.

3) The TCM and other engine performance requirements and performance characteristics for an 8 spd to work in the real world for a 392 takes a lot of money and R&D to make the 8 spd a reality.

The fact is it's not as easy as it seems, and to repeat the SRT8 is a very low volume vehicle and they are trying to keep it that way "exclusive" which is why the Jeep my dealer had on order for the dealership was cancelled, mine was built and delivered because it was pre-sold to me.

No Jeep SRT8's are built unless it's pre-sold, period. Currently a dealer cannot order and put it on the show room floor...hard to believe they are really keeping these as exclusive as they are.

8-sppeds suck in a high performance application anyway too many gears take away the performance feel and rush of the power in a 392 HEMI.

5th gear should be a little taller than it is at 75 MPH my monster tachs at @ 2500 RPM should be @ 2000 RPM.

So if you want a Jeep SRT8 either put in your order or be prepared to travel to get it, and if you think you should wait until the 8-spd is availible dream on because the 8 speed is a dream and not reality.

I generally agree with your thoughts related to the 8 speed transmission availability. Was surprised to see comments on vehicle availability only by order. Two months back there were many examples of SRT8's that were built and delivered that were listed as Sold Order=No. It drove me nuts to see the early ones listed on eBay while I patiently waited for the vehicle I ordered in mid June. A local dealer had one they ordered for stock (perhaps they added a name to it after they ordered it in June), it was gone before I had the chance to see if it had the "built for" info on it. It was listed on their website as available for a week or so.

You're wrong. The 8 speed can handle the power of both hemi motors. Supply issues are why they are not in use today. I've spoken with the srt engineers about this, in person. ;)

theres a chat coming up with the SRT engineers at the end of the month right here on JeepGarage! We will ask them then if the 8 speed CAN be used on the SRT8's. We have to be careful how we ask it though.....

Let me know if I misinterpreted some of the information I saw a while back related to orders. I will be the first one to admit that I probably spent way too much time trying to figure out the method behind the madness. I definitely could be wrong about whether or not dealer stock orders were delivered.

just about every statement made in this post is wrong in some form or fashion.

Re: 8 speed tranny? Dream on...

really! am I wrong? then prove me wrong, this is my opinion, no SRT8 jeeps can be ordered unless pre-sold smart ass..you can call jeep yourself and it's on the video of the guys jeep being built on you tube coming straight from the manager of the production plant. And my Jeep SRT8 came from a dealer who is a large SRT8 dealership and his got cancelled.

And no 392 has been mathched up to any 8-speed and no info to date suggest otherwise.

The rest of this post was my opinion as to it's durability and capabilities WHICH STILL HAS NOT BEEN PROVEN BY THE WAY.

SO BEFORE YOU PUT SOMEONE DOWN (which some jackasses are good at) post up some facts and documentation to the contrary!
