Album Art not displaying

Have a brand new 2012 GC SRT8 with 730N (RHR) radio. When connecting iPhone (direct or BT), all mp3 File Tag info is correct except there is no album art. ID tag is version ID3v2.3 (ANSI) and these are ripped files.

Software version:
Application: 2.120
Gracenotes: 3265
Database: HRT2-N 1108 4.2.1
SDS: 237246

Any comments/suggestions?

Thanks.

it only shows art that it gets from gracenote. would make sense to get it from the tag, but it doesn't.

It also appears that the CD must be from a relatively recent release. My older discs don't get cover art when I rip them using the 730N. Unless there is another step to get Gracenote to find the artwork?

Album art will not display unless you play or download to the HDD from the original CD. This has been explained several times in recent forum posts. Gracenote and Chrysler had a "falling out", and now we are basically SOL.

Gracenote is owned by Sony Corporation (can you say Ford Sync, GM MyLink, Toyota Entune).

There used to be cross-links between the Chrysler MyGig and Sony Gracenote webpages. Those appear to no longer exist:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gracenote
http://www.gracenote.com/verticals/automotive/
http://www.chrysler.com/en/owners/mygig/

The latest Gracenote Chrysler update is April 2011. Artwork from music released since that date will not display. Many older albums will also not display because of gaps in the Gracenote database. Your version listed is the latest Gracenote release.

The are currently no new Gracenote releases offered or planned for Chrysler products.

When and if available, I was told by my dealer that Gracenote updates will cost $19.95 software and 1 hour of shop time or approximately $125 per update. Also when available, GPS updates will be $149.95 and 1 hour of shop time or approximately $250 per update.

Guess Chrysler feels if we can afford to spend $40K on a SUV, these costs are reasonable. Personnally, I feel we are getting the short end of the stick on this. If you find out better, more updated information on this issue - please reply as many of us wish to update and be able to use the album art feature I thought was purchased with my GC expensive media player option package.

Was aware of the CD to HD issue.
Was not aware of the "falling-out" problem. Goodbye cover-art....

Gentlemen...

Thanks for the help...I wonder why the album art contained in the ID Tag isn't used.

That would certainly be ideal (and more accurate). I currently just hit the "i" button to only show my I'd tags and avoid their horrible album art.

I have never ripped songs from CD to the MyGig HDD, yet, I still get album art. These are mp3 tracks I've purchased. I get some pretty old album art work,(Violent Femmes 1987) like but overall it is hit and miss. The database itself is pretty sketchy, and it is pretty stupid if the artwork is embedded in the tag, why not use it? Instead of the crap art from the MyGig Gracenote DB, most annoying is when the MyGig displays the weak genre art.

I've experimented a little, I have edited some mp3's resulting in different track lengths, and if it varies too much, tracks that once upon a time displayed album art no longer display the art, but it still displays all of the other tag info.

This remains the most frustrating aspect of owning the Jeep, the clunky infotainment and clueless dealers.

I get album art from my ipod via the USB cable. Not all songs, but I did tell iTunes to update the album art and this seemed to get me more art. If gracenotes is useless, then can we delete it from our HDD and use the space for something more useful ?

Re: Album Art not displaying

Personally I don't care about album art, I'm more concerned about reliably playing music from track to track. But I did notice the other day when I was playing with buttons that some of the podcasts have album art and others don't. Of course that's the same as when viewing directly on the iPod screen... but not as many podcast's art show up on the 730N.

I think the next generation radios will depend more on the MP3 player for information display.
