730N RHR - SMS Option Missing?

I searched around but did not find this anywhere. I have a 2012 Overland with the 730n RHR. I've seen where people are talking about the sms through bluetooth. I don't think my phone (Droid X) has the message access profile everyone is talking about, so I don't believe it will work. :( But, should this option at least be greyed out somewhere? I have not been able to find it anywhere in the menu for uconnect phone or voice commands. Just wondering if I could need an update. Or is it possible it doesn't even show up if your phone is not capable. Due for a new phone in the next couple months, so I'll be sure to get one that has the MAP capability. Thanks for any help.

I am also curious. I read about this in another thread, and repeated what I read in a third thread, but when I tried using a phone with MAP, I found no way to have the SMS read to me (other than through the speaker in the phone, which it will do without the 730N). More usefull would be a way to respond to an SMS message via voice control (dictate, not letter-by-letter). Is this even possible? Some phones have this capability (ie: Tap-a-Talk, etc.), so if the 730N can communicate with that function.....?

Here is what the "user guide" says about it....

Voice Command for Text Messaging
• If equipped with Uconnect™ Voice Command, your Media Center 430N &
730N radios may be able to play incoming Short Message Service (SMS)
messages (text messages) through the vehicle's sound system.
• It also allows you to respond by selecting from various pre-defined
phrases.
• Not all phones are compatible with this feature. Refer to the phone
compatibility list at www.jeep.com/uconnect. Connected mobile phones
must be bluetooth-compatible, and paired with your radio.
• Press the “Voice Command” button and after the BEEP, say “SMS”
to get started.
NOTE:
To access the tutorial, press the “Voice Command” button .
After the BEEP, say “tutorial”. Press any hard-key/button or touch the display

(Touch-Screen radio) to cancel the tutorial.

I'm going to try to mess with it more this evening. But so far I've had no luck even getting to an option for SMS.

I guess another visit to the Verizon store is in order. I didn't try saying "SMS" when pressing the voice-command button. I just sent a text to the phone after pairing it to the RHR, expecting the message to automatically be read aloud through the speakers of the vehicle.

Re: 730N RHR - SMS Option Missing?

From what I've read in some other posts, I think there are some options for BT (either on your phone, or on the 730n?) to allow access to the incoming messages. But I can't find anything about SMS on mine yet. I need to try more with voice command "SMS". Hopefully from there I can at least get a menu of some kind.

Re: 730N RHR - SMS Option Missing?

I messed with this once I got home this evening. No luck... when I hit the voice command button and say "sms", it either goes back to the radio, or tries to dial a number. Grrr... Here are some specs on my radio if it helps:

Application: 2.116
Gracenotes: 3265
Database: HRT2-N1108 4.2.1

For those of you that have at least seen the sms option greyed out, how did you get there? Thanks for the help!

The last publication of phones compatible with the RHR 730N SMS feature showed a grand total of 0, nada, zilch, null phones. If anyone gets it to work let me know how, <Sarcasm> otherwise I'll be patiently waiting for the call from Chrysler/Jeep with my update. </Sarcasm>

My wife has a HTC Trophy running Windows Phone 7.5. When a text comes in the Jeep will ask to read it or ignore. After reading the Jeep will ask if you want to reply. I don't see anywhere to initiate a new text, but receiving and replying works pretty good.

Has always worked with this phone. Car came with 1.9something. I'm running v2.120 now.

My Droid doesn't do it, only works with this Windows Phone.
