I made a trailer hitch plug

So my fiance and i are really in to horses. We have 1 for now with the plans of more in the future when we buy some property. There are about a dozen horses in her family between her mothers and fathers side.

Recently we saw a F350 with a cool Horse show trailer hitch plug. I looked it up online and it was $30 plus shipping. I said Fark that.

I had a piece of 2x2 1/4" wall tube and some horse shoes hangin around. I dont have a welder yet so i prepped it for weld and took it to the local shop that Did my exhaust. (Lou's custom exhaust in NH and Mass).

They were pretty slow and they welded it for me for free. Then i cleaned it all up and painted it with silver rustoleum hammered paint. Cost me all of $6 to make with things i have hangin around.

I already have a few friends that want me to make them one so i need to get more 2x2 (but thinner wall prolly 1/8th or 14ga wall) and i have 3 more horse shoes and i am going to make them for X-Mas gifts.

My g/f and her family members all show their horses at local and semi local horse shows and i am working on becoming a Ferrier, (guy who puts on horse shoes) so i think that if i can get my hands on a used mig welder or buy a cheap one at Home Depot or harbor Freight i might start to make these to sell at the horse shows.

My next idea is to take Red LEDs and put them in the nail holes on the shoe for a lighted version and also do different colors.

Horse people are pretty gung ho about horses and uaually loaded (unlike myself) and will pay good money for these, especially the lighted ones.

good job on the hitch plug. i have the "Jeep" plug in mine. got it from my local dealer for $12. i think it would look a little better if you closed off the tube though. they could have easily welded a flat piece in there.

Very cool. I love horses too but haven't ridden in a couple of years. Gotta get back into it. We took a trip into the Absaroka mountains of Wyoming in 2004 on horseback. Just 3 of us and 5 horses. It was great.

i thought about that but the one online was not closed and if it was closed it would kinda make it hard to tell what it is from a far unless i painted the 2x2 black. This is the first of many to come so we will see what happens.

Yea, i use that for my thule bike rack usually, just drilled out he pin hole enough to fit a pad lock, then put chassis grease in the lock so it wont freeze with road salt and corrosion.

I am going to make another within the next few weeks, then i will send it to you to see what we can come up with for a wiring harness.

Get back on the horse dude. I am a novice rider, i am learning though, my fiance and her family are all very experienced though. I cant wait to get in to the ferrier business though, i have always loved horses.

Nice Kyle...will you be taking orders? I know one person I would like to buy one for, and I bet you i could find you another 3-5 orders without really trying! Let me know...

And dude Ferriers make BANK...esp the really good ones! Good luck with that, I think it is a great job with the potential for great pay!

i will be taking orders when i have a more established setup going for me. Right now i have 3 shoes and i need to buy steel and then have them welded and i am shit broke at the moment. I need to make 1 more so i can send that to lipz for the wiring mockup. Once thats taken care of and i have patented the lighted version i will start taking orders. if you need 1 or 2 for like x mas gifts or sumtin i can prolly do that but for now i cant commit to anything.

Thats not happening. There is plenty of horse business here. i cant drive in almost any direction from my house and pass at lease a dozen horse/farm/bording facilities within 25 mins of my house. We have many major horse shows locally and alot of them will continue on to the states and worlds competitions out your way. I have plenty to keep me busy here. :D

The Plug looks good Kyle. So when did you get.. or i never seen a Jeep with the 4.7L Limited emblems. Was that something you ordered special? Cause i know overseas markets designate and display whether the Jeep is a 3.0 Turbo, 3.7L, 4.7L or 5.7 Hemi
