Car Buying Service

I have decided to purchase an Overland GC, Mineral Gray w/Black Interior. My question to all of you GC Owners is:

Has anyone had any experience with a Car Buying Service such as Zag, Consumer Reports or Truecar.com?

I, as probably many of you do not like the haggling, excessive fees & the runaround associated with purchasing a car. I would like to use one of these services but don't know anyone that has used one in the past. I have read both positives and negatives on all three of these on the web.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed, what to look out for and how to avoid excessive add on fees?

It's been 10 years since I last purchased my 2002 Ford Explorer. My goal is to use the internet to it's fullest minimize the fustration as much as possible. I would, as always appreciated hearing from those who had used one.

Everyone on this forum has been great!!!! You can't beat honest feedback from those who know.

Happy Motoring!
Ken, Carol Stream, IL.

Re: Car Buying Service

I used Zag for my 2009 Volvo purchase and I tried to use Zag for my 2011 Jeep GC purchase.

The prices were very good but they were mitigated a bit my the "advertising/doc fees" that the dealers tacked on. For the Volvo, they just told me it was the fee and didn't even try to keep me around when we initially walked out, so my guess is that the price was their best and final.

The main problem I had on the Jeep was that the sales contacts didn't really follow up with us. In one case the dealership changed hands and the new owners didn't want to agree to the pricing which was around $1000 under invoice. In the end we went to a different dealer and haggled over price...pretty sure we didn't get the best deal but it wasn't too bad.

you don't need a place like truecar.com etc, since you're in IL - Fields will beat them in price, that's where I got mine and delivered to Ohio too.

no games and no BS, Patrick was straight-forward and saved me a lot of time, he's a vendor here too.

love this thing!:D

WOW! This is exactly the one I want!!! Does it have the black interior or the saddle? I have NOT an Overland with black interior.

Where is Fields located? I guess I will put Patrick on my list to call when I'm ready in the fall.

Thanks for the info and pic!!

Re: Car Buying Service

I didn't use true car or any of those websites to get a great deal on my (ordered) loaded up limited. I emailed 4 dealers in my area asking for their best price/Internet price in the exact setup I wanted. Then when done emailing til I couldn't get any dealer lower, I went in and ordered. the exact setup I wanted wasn't available within 500 miles so knowing I had to order made it easy since there was no differences In jeeps being priced out. It worked out well. Paying 37700 for a 43k jeep. Pretty happy with my deal. Good luck with whatever u do with buying. Sounds like pat can help u get a good deal!
