3.5'' single pipe too big for 5.7?

Got the SRT8 manifolds, magnaflow mid pipes with x pipe. I am thinking about the flowmaster big block dual 3inch inlets, single 3.5 inch outlet. I have a full stock cat back off my old duramax that could probably be converted onto the flowmaster after chopping off the old muffler. With some minor bending at an exhaust shop it may fit my Jeep... the pipe is 3.5 inch. Until it warms up around here I can't pull my heads and cams for the Inertia setup and then get a CMR. Would this size exhaust (3.5 single) be too much for my jeep? I have a KN 63 intake and predator also.

so the parts collection is coming together.....

Have my performance heads from inertia, crazy jay cam, srt8 headers, magnaflow 49046 mid/cats, new water pump, new transmission cooler line hoses (leaky), Magnaflow 50 series HD dual 3'' inlet dual 2.5'' outlet, universal 2.5'' 409 SS flowmaster pipes, two Flowmaster hushpower 2.5'' inlet and outlet resonators, Serpentine belt..... should be a blast installing all of this stuff

hoping I can get it all installed before I go on vacation on the 25th, but the Inertia installation package.... (pushrods, gaskets, etc) have yet to arrive

I would stick with a 3" as well. Our Jeeps are restricted with so much from the headers and Exhaust.

Yup in my opinion most definitely to big , actually I lost a lot of power on my 04 5.7 GTO after headers and open exhaust . if you open it to much its going to star running lean ...I think you don't need that much flow because you are not using turbo or supercharger , I'm thinking about the same setup for my jeep to , but I probably will use bigger t body .
By the way after installing your cam and heads , I would custom dyno tune it ... predator is the shit but it newer will be the same as dyno tune .

Good luck:thumbsup:

hmmm really ? Hi Ryan ! well You don't think it may run to lean ? after that he may have to increase fuel right ? thats what I think:)
Let my know what is your idea , because Im about to go with the same setup in couple of weeks .

Thanks:thumbsup:

Re: 3.5'' single pipe too big for 5.7?

For what it is worth, my exhaust guy that built my headers and exhaust system said a 3.5 in. single was too big for a 5.7, even if modified. The stock 5.7 LX runs 2.25 in. duals, and I had a friend put 2.5 on his and lost power. He had to weld in a restriction to get the power back. He was running a package similar to what you're going to install, but he added a 100 shot of nitrous. My system, with my mods. is completely 3 in. from collector to exhaust tip.
