Push to start(keyless n go)

I was wondering if anyone know of a way to put a "keyless n go" into a 2011 grand cherokee that was not originally equipped with it.

Probably more trouble than it is worth!

Are you sure you do not have it? I thought all the 2011's did. I believe only the 2012 base E models do not have it due to de-contenting on the 2012's. If you are missing the push button in the dash, it can be purchased from your dealer or on-line for less than $20. To verify if you actually have it, you can carefully insert the eraser end of a pencil into the key opening in the dash and push. If it starts, all you need is the button.

Another way to check is to contact Chrysler-Jeep Customer Cares and request a copy of your original build sheet. The e-mail address and a copy of my request is copied below for reference. The option you are looking for on the build sheet you get back is:
XBNP Tip Start

Best luck.

I second that all 2011 models have it and the only ones that don't are the very base 2012 models. All you need is the button. A lot of times the dealers forget to install the button and it's sitting in the glove box. It's meant to be able to pop in or out.

Bought it used and didn't come with one. THE ERASE TRICK WORKED GREAT. I will go to the dealer and pick one up.
Thank You ALL.

Re: Push to start(keyless n go)

Hi all. I posted this over at Jeep Forums, but am desparately seeking more info ASAP.

I bought a pre-owned 2011 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4X4 (E package, I think) on Saturday. I just got back from the dealer today trying to address Keyless Enter N Go and "push start". The dealer is telling me this vehicle doesn't have "push button start" and that "tip start" just refers to the key fob going in the slot to turn to start.

Is this true? Or is tip start the same as "push button start"?

They also said I don't have remote start, but my key fob has it.. so they said they are ordered me new key fobs.

Do I need to have remote start for push button start?

And if Tip Start IS push button start, how do I tell them they are wrong and I should have that? Where can I get a description of that feature code?

According to Jeep.com (registered the VIN), this DOES have "tip start".

Re: Push to start(keyless n go)

All 2011 Laredo E GC's have tip start, prox keyless entry on the door handles and keyless Entry-N-Go. There are several TBS's for the 2011 models regarding the prox entry and/or pushbutton start not working due to a programming and/or antenna issue for the system. Here is another link:

I was told the same thing when I bought my used 2011 Grand Cherokee. I tried the eraser trick and it worked great. I went into the dealer the next day and bought a push button for about $15.00. Pushed the button into the slot and has worked ever since.

I have the XBNP Tip Start on my 2011 durangos build sheet. I purchased a push to start button and it was a no go. Installed the button and nothing.....

Re: Push to start(keyless n go)

Durangos might be different. Do you have the small black buttons on your front door handles for the Prox Keyless feature (reach behind handle to unlock, push button to lock)? You need the Keyless Enter-N-Go feature for the pushbuttons start. I believe the entry level Durango in 2011 did not have these features. For 2012, the SXT does not have the features. The Crew and above do, and remote start as well.

Tip Start is just the ability of starting the vehicle with a single push of the button or turn of the key in your case (vs having to hold it in position) to start. Tip Start is explained in more detail in the Owners Manual. Best luck.

Re: Push to start(keyless n go)

its a durango Heat and it doesnt have the buttons on the handle....but has the same code on the build sheet as jeeps with the push button. When I added the button...I got the damaged key on the EVIC

muzicman82 04-25-2012 07:14 PM

Re: Push to start(keyless n go)

I am getting the "Damaged Key" message currently in my WK2... I'm told that the passive (keyless) entry doesn't work because I have the wrong keys. I am guessing there is some lack of communication between the keys and the vehicle. I am hoping that replacing with new keys (which is what is happening tomorrow) restores that communication and then push button start will work.

I e-mailed Chrysler directly and they confirmed that Keyless Enter-N-Go is the feature that is required for both passive entry AND push-button start.

If you don't have buttons on the handle in your Durango, or have keyless entry, I am guessing you don't have push-button start.
