Car Toys or Best Buy??

I want to upgrade my audio system on my JGC. Everything I have is stocked, I want an in-dash navigation system with nice sound. Anyone know which way i should go, and should i have it install by Car Toys or Best Buy???

You probably should look at the features you want and which nav system is best for you. Do you want to add a hands free phone or backup camera, for example, it you want Garmin Nav, then look at Kenwood. Just about all replacement system have "nice" sound given the right speakers.

There are dozens of right answers, but Crutchfield.com is a good place to look at what may be available and what it takes to install them.

It is heavily dependent on actual tech installer experience. Ask what experience either have had on the WK2, which audio model, and when. Ideally you are not their first experiment, and they understand CANBUS.

Check out the other audio threads in this subforum, biggest upgrades will be solid sub enclosure, aftermarket amps, and components depending upon your base audio model. Also sweat the details of steering wheel controls and handsoff bluetooth phone functions if they are priorities.

Edit: threadlink below to other wk2 audio installs:

Greetings,

I totally agree with Moosehead, the key for a successful installation depends on the knowledge of the installer. Anybody can connect wires, however, today, in the mobile audio world integrating into these car system, the installer has to know more about the car. Since the GC uses the Hi-Speed CANBUS, we fall into this category only because the one wrong connection or something is out of sync will effect another non-audio system in the GC.

The one thing that IMO Best Buy Greek Squad warranty program give them an edge.

By the way, I am in the same boat as you. In my case, I have no nav and I also want to rehab the entire system. Right now for nav, I waiting for the new Kenwood headunits to come out with new interface from Idatalink. It is my understanding that sometime this summer or fall it should be out to tap into the UConnect system in the GC. This would make life much easier for me to rehab the audio into a better sounding premium system.

Best for now. :)
