'Premium door panels' and sound deadening?

First post!

I'm considering a WK2 for my next vehicle. I'm trying to hold out for the 8-speed but we'll see. It will be a 2wd V6 model.

I'm currently trying to decide between the Laredo-X and the Limited packages. One thing that is noted on the website is "Premium door panel" for the Limited models. Does anyone know what the difference is?

From what I can tell, the Laredo-X door panels are padded / soft touch. I couldn't tell a difference between them.

Also, does anyone know if the Laredo-X has less / inferior sound deadening in the cabin because it's a lower spec model? The curb weight of the Limited is about 200lb higher but I attributed that mostly to the sunroof.

I've been poking around a lot, it's a great forum. Much better guys over here than any of the Lexus forums (slam it yo!). My current vehicle is an IS250.

Welcome hades. Presume you are in a southern climate with no need for 4wd?

Meanwhile, you might want to surf around here for background on the Pentastar transmission, which is new for the V6 and may be more than satisfactory. The V6 guys will chime in on this. Not sure, but I believe the theoretical future 8 speed is for the Hemi?

Also not sure on the door panels, but I believe it is primarily interior finish level vs. interior sound deadening. All trim levels of the WK2 are plenty quiet, when I went futszing around with new speakers, the doors really couldn't handle much more sound deadening materials.

Thanks! Yes, I live in Houston and don't go too far offroad so I wouldn't realize any benefits from having a 4x4. I really love that the WK2 can be had as a mechanically simple vehicle if you choose, and especially pleased that the Pentastar is NOT direct-injected. I have had 2 direct injected cars and both of these models are plagued with carbon buildup problems once you reach 50-60k miles.

(Chrysler, if you read this... PLEASE if you make the Pentastar direct injected, include port injectors to wash the intake valves!)

As for the 5-speed, it seems like first gear is unnecessarily tall. Youtube videos show the truck reaching 50+ MPH before it shifts out of first under WOT. I was thinking the truck would have a little more pep with a shorter first and/or second ratio. Also, another year for Chrysler to tweak the Pentastar engine incase there are any issues.

Not sure if there is a difference between models but ive read a lot of posts about people saying theres no room in the doors because of all the insulation thats in them from the factory. Poke around in the audio section and im sure you find it mentioned several times.

Be aware of the dates of those videos. 2012s' and later 2011s' transmissions are programmed differently and shift differently due to complaints/feedback of early 2011 owners.

It's to be used for both the V8 and V6 from what I've read.

Also, if they only used it in the V8, the mileage improvement would make it almost equal to the V6 which would just about kill demand for the latter.

I don't know if it will be paired with the Hemi or not but it will be paired with the V6. Chrysler is already doing this in several vehicles.

Personally I find the gearing horrible in the 5sp. In particular when accelerating after cornering it never seems to be in the right gear.

One of many old posts http://www.themotorreport.com.au/526...r-8-speed-auto

Jeep's new Grand Cherokee will get its first update in the coming year, and among the mechanical tweaks will be a new ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission.

According to Britain's Autocar maReplacing the five-speed auto currently offered with the big SUV and 4WD, the new transmission is expected to be paired with the Grand Cherokee's petrol and diesel V6 engines.gmoveazine, the eight-speed will also make its way to the V8 Hemi models - a which could help the big 5.7 litre engine shave a good chunk off its 14.1 l/100km fuel economy.
