Backing up studders
 
Hi, I was wondering if anyone who lives in an area with steep hills have had the same problem as I seem to be experiencing. I have an Overland Summit with the ELSD. When I'm parking the truck and I back up on a steep paved hill the back wheels seem to have a hard time deciding what to do. The car jerks and studders as it backs up. It feels like the Jeep thinks I'm trying to go up some rocky or sandy hill when it's actually pavement. I have the transmission and QT setting on auto.

Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.

Could this be Hill Start Assist?

From the Jeep website:

Hill Start Assist helps drivers when starting a vehicle from a stop on a hill by maintaining the level of brake pressure applied for a short period after the driver's foot is removed from the brake pedal. If throttle is not applied within a short period after the driver's foot is removed from the brake pedal, brake pressure will be released.

Thanks for your message. Not sure if that's what it is. I do know when I'm on a steep hill at a complete stop while going up that if I remove my foot, the truck doesn't move. I think that's what brake assist is for. My previous Jeep and other cars would move backwards a little after I let go of the brakes and before I pressed the accellerator.

The feelng I get when backing up, like parallel parking, is that the truck thinks the tires think it needs traction so it tries to do too many things when all that's needed is to accellerate. I guess I'll just chock it up to another quirk in the Jeep.
