Burning smell 5.7Hemi

I have about 500 miles on my Limited and when I really gun it I smell this burning coming from the engine. I have only nailed it like 4 times for a few seconds since I had it and get this smell every time. Is this normal for break in or do I have a problem?

My v8 2012 overland did the same thing. It went away fairly quickly.

I get it with the V6. Dealer told me its normal. I've 400 miles at the moment

Normal, it is a combustion engine ;)

It takes awhile to burn off all the gunk and labels from production. Gunning the engine heats up the exhaust much much more than usual, especially the cats. So you will be burning off more gunk and more downhill.

You may want to check for oil leaks that are dripping on a hot surface.

I wouldn't be concerned. It's normal for almost all new vehicles. Among other things, cosmoline/anti-corrosion coatings are often sprayed on the exhaust sytem. It just takes a while for these things to burn off.

I got the same burning smell twice on my V6 when it was a few weeks old. I haven't smelled anything since.

I'm at about 450 miles on my Hemi and noticed the same thing last night after pulling in the garage.

Great. I guess I won't worry about it then.

Guess you decided to ignore the normal break-in procedure for a new engine?
You're suppose to be driving it gently for the first 500 miles..
