Sensor issue with powder coating?
I am currently waiting on my dealer to do my 20' wheels black on my 2012 GC Limited. Mean while I have a stock 20' set on until ready. They are claiming that they are unsure if they can powder coat them due to the possibility of the pressure sensors not being able to stand up to powder coat treatment. Claiming that if they stuff up the sensors, they are $2500 each to replace, which they don't won't to folk out for if it is true. So they are waiting on confirmation from Chrysler Australia.

Do any of you guys know if this would be an issue? Is it better to paint them instead of PC?

Any experience with this situation?

Re: Sensor issue with powder coating?
The sensors are not $2500 each, more like 25. Also when powder coating they have to completely disassemble the wheel, valve stems, center caps etc... Then the wheel is chemically stripped and blasted, the powder is sprayed on usually in multiple coats, then the wheel is heated in a huge oven. If they don't know how to do the powdercoating then I would find somewhere else. Oh and make sure they dismount the tires too...

I have my wheels powdercoated no issues. LIke Army said, they completely dissasemble the wheel. I would definitively find someone else as they have no clue what they are talking about.

Re: Sensor issue with powder coating?
Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated. Thought that the price of the sensors was over exaggerated!....I have contacted Chrysler Australia myself to sort out this issue with the dealer. They are going to call me back on Monday and advise what is going on. I think that the wheels will be better of in the hands of a quality powder coater as you guys mentioned.....Cheers
