Creaking sound when coming to a hard stop
3.6 L V6 Laredo

Simple test: At a speed of greater than 5 mph, without skidding, come to a complete straight on stop (similar to the last 25 feet coming to a stop sign).

When I tried it doing about 5mph, as the car stopped and then eased back, I always got a creak/groan coming from the left front (drivers side).

Could someone test this out for me ?

Brake slip... Try a few hard braking runs, i had same noises once the brake pads got "set" the issue is gone ... Now close to 3000 kms and noise is nomlonger there

Brake creak when coming to complete stop

I have the same issue (front drivers side) and posted about it in the above thread. It was *really* bad sometimes when I first got the vehicle (and when I posted which was back in January).

It's suddenly been a lot better the last few weeks. I rarely here it now and even when I do it's not as bad as it use to be. Definitely not a problem anymore once the brakes warm up; I now only here it a bit when they're cold/wet. It's gotten so better that I'd now be hesitant to say anything to the dealer - they'd think I was nuts. whereas back when it was worse I think they'd have had no problem reproducing it.

I have about 5300 miles.

Re: Creaking sound when coming to a hard stop
Thanks everyone for the links. It doesn't seem to be suspension related, since I figure I'd hear the sound going over bumps....which I don't. So, I'm going to assume, for the time being, that it's probably noisy rotors/pads that need some wear.

Re: Creaking sound when coming to a hard stop
I still have this after 1500 miles and a serious bed-in procedure.. L front like yours. Tech said it was the pad moving in the caliper, which I thought too.. I assume it is moving back when the wt of the vehicle bounces off the springs when the car just comes to a stop changing the force on the pad 180 degrees... The pad then moves a bit on the rotor when it hits its end of movement in the caliper making the sound that is the same as when you are slowly inching forward at a red light by letting up on the brake a bit and begin to move.

I personally think that if I really wanted it to stop I'd have to take the pad off and maybe put some syn grease on the back of it or a shim.. I don't think it's dangerous and neither did the tech.. He said it's normal, so did the service rep... I thought, yeah, normal for a chrysler... But really, I think it is a flaw in the brake design but not a real problem.
