Help please. I did not remove pine pitch in a timely manner.

Vehicle is 2002 GC SE with a 4.7 and no structural or paint issues. Due to my stupidity:o, I left the pitch on the Silver jeep from last fall over the winter. I have used De-Sol-it Contractors strength with varying degrees of success. Difficulty is when pitch seems to be embedded into the paint and has discolored the silver to a "darker" color. Am considering the use of 2500 grit for clean up but do not know if this is looking for trouble? I own a PC orbital and perhaps that might be the solution? All help appreciated. Sick of looking at this clown Jeep. Thanks all for any inputs. Appreciated.

Oh man...I would shy away from any solvents. Personally, I'd start with detailers clay to see if that will shear it off, then follow with a good polish, sealant, and wax.

What is a pine pitch?

Goopy, sticky, acidic, tar-like ooze that comes from pine trees. If you've ever picked up a closed pine cone, or cut a branch off of a pine tree, or tried to climb one, you know what we're talking about. Nasty stuff.

At this point it may be beyond correction, but I'd at least start with clay, followed with a machine applied compound, and polish. (I'm a Meguiar's Ultimate line fan) If that doesn't do it, you need to get more aggressive, but if it ate through the clearcoat, you might be screwed.

Have you tried one of the hand spray car washes? The water is usually hot and that might loosen it? Or what about bur and tar cleaner? Just guessing to try and help

As original poster explained. Local native Americans used it to seal the seams in their birch bark canoes. Just as I have to remember not to park under coconut palms trees when in FL, I try not to park under pine trees here.
