Traction Control/Shift times

so lately my 3.7 has been doing some odd stuff. it's flashing the traction control and docking my acceleration on flat ground, mostly during light turns or heavy acceleration.

think it may have to do with the fact that my tires aren't all the same right now due to a minor accident, any other ideas as to what might be giving it the proverbial spins?

oops, meant to add this too... sometimes, generally above 60mph, it's hanging in higher rpm zones longer instead of shifting. not sure what the deal is there, I tightened up the CAI and the added a hose clamp to the vacuum line because it seemed loose. hadn't reset my negative terminal so that may just all be a side effect of the super sealed intake.

hmm.

Re: Traction Control/Shift times

When you say the tires aren't quit right, how far off are they? Are they all the same size?

Since the traction control system uses the wheel speed sensors, if the diameter of the tire is off enough to suggest one wheel is spinning (moving faster than the others), it will certainly behave as you describe. The difference in size could also be due to substantially different tread depth across tires.

Basically, anything that would cause any one tire to behave substantially differently in rolling and/or grip characteristics can affect the way the traction control system will function.

Apart from the odd behavior, having mismatched (especially different size) tires can put additional wear on the driveline and could cause permanent damage (in theory, at least).

I would definitely swap the tires for matched/correct sizes as soon as is feasible to do so.

Re: Traction Control/Shift times

I had intermittant traction control events in my grand when my tires were 2 or 3/32nds difference. It seemed to only happen when turning sharp (like into a parking lot off a busy street) and driving down the freeway taking curves, never lasted very long when it happened... furthermore if your tires are more different than mine were it would likely happen more often

awesome, that's got to be it then. thanks for the info.

and yes, changing them as soon as I can. just working out a new set of the srt 20's that I've so desperately been wanting.
