4.0L stroker question

My buddy has a 2002 (or there about) XJ w/ the 4.0L and a cracked head. Instead of just replacing the head, he's buying a new bolt in pre-assembled stroker motor. As a result, I'm getting his old motor and I'll assemble my own stroker kit.

Now, I've never built a stroker or even touched the bottom end of an engine. So this will be a great learning experience in my free time. I've been doing some research and it looks like there's a couple options but for a basic stroker it looks like I'm going to need the following:

AMC 4.2L 3.895" crank
AMC 4.2L 5.875" rods
CompCams 68-231-4 cam

Now my question comes on choosing the pistons. If I don't bore out the block, can I reuse the stock 4.0L pistons? I'm finding a bunch of different opinions on pistons. If I bored it 0.020", would the following pistons be a good purchase?

Obviously there will be some more minor parts to purchase such as bearings, seals, studs, gaskets, fuel system, etc. But right now I'm looking at the major parts and trying to get a good grasp and understanding. Since the motor I'm getting will have a cracked head, I've heard that the pre-97 (I think it was 97) heads had a bigger exhaust port and I should try to find one of those. Any truth to that statement or more details I should know?

Bottom line is that my goal is to simply take this free motor and use it to give my Jeep some "umph" to actually be able to pass other vehicles. Has anyone here done this and can give me some additional information that I may have overlooked?

BUMP.

No one here has done any sort of work on the engine internals?

I didn't look at the cam specs but I'd imagine you'd want to verify what your tuning options consist of .Post up your PCM #, and I'll see if it's supported. I know some of the 4.0s can be tuned, but it's on a PCM by PCM basis.
