CRD Oil change indicator.

I was searching the TSB page today and came across this TSB NUMBER: 26-002-12
SUBJECT:Owner Manual Addendum - Important Notice - Export Models Only

The thing I found interesting was this explanation

"Oil Change due 2.0L/3.0L Diesel Engines
Your vehicle is equipped with an engine oil change indicator system. The “Oil Change Due” message will display in the EVIC for five seconds after a single chime has sounded at the start of each ignition that an oil change is due. The engine oil change indicator system is duty cycle based, which means the engine oil change interval may fluctuate depending upon your personal driving style"

I have just clocked up 10K and going in for a service tomorrow and i was wondering why I had no service reminders pop up on the display as yet. Given this is an addendum to the service manual do we have to stick to the 10k service schedule or do we service when indicated?

have a look here if you haven't already.....

The oil change interval is monitored by the PCM and will advise when an oil change is required.
Depending on conditions and your style of driving, changes may be required before the recommended intervals - the old way of doing it before onboard computers that monitor the engine and associated programming.
Using the correct oil is by far the most important criteria - a number of Euro hi tech diesels (including VW, Mercedes and BMW) use these synthetic long life oils and achieve very long intervals compared with our recommended 10,000K. The stuff isn't cheap.

Changing early or at recommended intervals won't hurt, except maybe your pocket.

It's service interval by "condition monitoring". It makes much more sense if your monitoring is reliable and based on sound criteria. Industry has been using it for a long time.
