WJ transfer case question

I have a 2001 grand cherokee limited and it appears to have a slight leak in the transfer case. I have purchased all new seals and the atf+4, but the guy fixing it wants to know if it has a gasket or rtv silicone to seal the case itself. I have heard that the dealers used a cut it yourself gasket kit to seal it. Can someone please help clarify this for me?

You should have the NV 242 T-case, since thats the only one which is still using ATF+4 for the fluid. According the manual they use silicone adhesive sealer or MOPAR gasket maker.
Attached the procedure for the NV 247 T-case, which is the same as for the NV 242, but the manual didnīt show any picture of how to put the sealing on.

Re: WJ transfer case question

To seal the case itself you need RTV made for aluminum, no gasket needed.
