UHF Aerial Mount

Hey,

Anyone fitted an aerial anywhere other than on a bracket coming out from under the bonnet? If so, where?

Cheers,

Jasman.

Nice setup! Does that make a big improvement to the 3G?

How is the mount attached and how did you get the cable through the roof up there?

It makes a huge improvement.
Even with the aerial down.
Only stand it up when really needed.
It has a 19mm square tube milled down to 17mm.
Then rolled to match the roof.
That tube then fits inside the roof rack rails. And uses the rail bolts to hold it down.
That spreads the load over the length of the roof.
I drilled a whole through the roof rack rail then removed it and drilled into the roof under the rail (10mm whole) so it cant be seen. primed it and painted. Then used a grommet with sikaflex to seal it. passed the cable through and again used sikaflex to seal the cable in the grommet.
When removed you would not know it was there.

Nice solution!!

I've been checking out antennas etc today and I think I'm going to fit a RFI onglass antenna (ie mobile phone look) to passenger side of the windscreen, you can buy a $100 kit which includes a little unity antenna (about 200mm tall) and a 3dB whip (about 6-700mm tall).

I'll leave the little neat unity on during the week and just unscrew it on weekends and fit the 3dB

Hi Deserthucker
Could you tell us a bit more about the mobile signal booster, how it works, where you got it and about how much it cost?
Cheers Yoda

Anyone had any problems with the CanBus system when installing the UHF? an installer told me it was very difficult to find suitable "accessory" power in Jeeps because on CanBus.

I just bridged into the cig socket in front of the gear lever, no probs in the six months so far

If he is worried about accessory power use a relay and a feed from the battery.
