Cruise Control

Just came back from another long-ish trip and decided to use cruise control for the first time. It is the smoothest cruise control ever. It doesn't floor it when going up an overpass or long steady hills unlike any of my previous vehicles inlcuding my old Lexus IS300. In fact, it got me about 24.5 mpg compared to 22.5 on the way out with no CC. Sure it's not exactly a good comparison but it gives me an idea of what to expect. Anway, I'm just impressed.

Re: Cruise Control

v-8 or V-6?

in my V-6 cruise in the 50-65mph range results in wide fluctuation of speed... +/- 3mph at any setpoint

in the 72-75mph range, it is better with +/- 1.5mph or so.

IS there any adjustment for variation?
I believe part of it is the torque band on the V6 engine.

My old 94 ZJ with 5.2 would hold 1mph basically any set point from 45 to 80... that low end 'grunt' was what helped.

Re: Cruise Control

Guess it would depend on how much "authority" it has. On I-4 my V6 holds exactly the set speed by speedo and GPS. Now Florida is flat...

the adaptive is awesome, but did get a false warning from the collision telling me to brake.

Yeh, my '11 v-6 cruise varies as much as 3 mph below and 1 mph above when cruising around 72. The 3 below aggravates the begeebers out of me on roller coaster stretches of interstate.

Re: Cruise Control

I have the V8 and it does tend to keep very close to the set speed, even up and down hills.
I don't know if you have the adaptive cruise control or not, but it is AWESOME.
Immensely better than standard cruise control.
No longer do I have to keep disabling it when coming up on traffic, etc..
I set it about at my ideal speed, even if the traffic is slower and it keeps right up to the guy in front, slowing when necessary, then accelerating to my set speed if able too.
The only thing is, since the distance it keeps to the car ahead is very conservative, people will still cut in front, causing my Jeep to suddenly slow to keep the same distance.
I wish sometimes it had a "Montreal driver setting" which is about 5 feet from the bumper in front. :p

Just to check, what distance factor do you have it set at, 1, 2, or 3? 3 provides for the largest gap between vehicles, 1 the shortest. I don't have the distances that each number represents, but 1 is fairly close. Not "Montreal driver" close, but worth trying if you don't already have it set at 1.

Re: Cruise Control

I don't have the adaptive CC and was going 75. I also have the V6. On the uphills, nothing overly steep, it would tend to go down to 73 but as I mentioned, it wouldn't floor it unlike my other vehicles. Going downhill, it holds the speed pretty steady and may blip to 76. I didn't try any other speed setting and was on this for about 1 hr until I got to the first small town. Then off and on until I got past the rest of the other small towns. Finally, the last ~2 hrs was on CC. I should also mentioned that I got lucky with traffic. Pretty much wide open and no accidents and missed rush hour.

I have it set to '1'
Of I put it to 2 or 3, then the whole neighborhood moves in :p

Yeah, 1 is still about 5 car lengths in mine. 2 and 3 are really distant. Too much so.
