Rear tow hook

I would like to ask those of you that have had dealer fitted tow bars (the Mopar Best Bars of NZ bar) whether you still have the rear tow hook installed.

Ours has been taken off when the bar was fitted.
I've made such a fuss with the dealer about the front hooks missing and bugger me when i got under the back the rear one was gone as well!!

Mine is still on. Get it put back on

I installed our tow bar myself and the fitting instructions say and show that the rear recovery hook stays on, make them refit it, if they have tossed it then have them buy a new one and refit, they have not followed the JEEP fitting instructions

Hi yoda42,

How straightforward was the installation of the towbar?

yoda42 03-18-2012 07:11 PM

It's pretty straight forward, hardest bit is the clips for the rear wheel arch flairs, more annoying than hard and you worry about scratching paint, but take it slow and it's easy, the rest is just unbolt pull out old cross member bolt in tow bar, the instructions are fairly good even the wiring is straight forward just follow instructions, I took my time and it took about 3 hours
Any one with basic mechanic skills could do the install

Welcome LC 150 - i gather you are a prado convert like me?

yoda42 03-19-2012 04:59 AM

Sorry lc-150 the tow bar fitting instructions and trailer wiring harness fitting instructions are about 7 pages each of instructions and pictures
I don't have a scanner to up load the instructions
You will get them if you buy a tow bar( they come in the box
If you have done any minor to moderate work/fitting to a 4x4 before you will be able to fit this

That sounds good. I might look into it myself. I take it you did the Mopar kit?

I read somewhere else, jeepforum i think, that someone was going to fit his own but the dealer was telling him he'd have to pay $85 to bring the GC in to "enable" the trailer wiring after he installed. It sounded like a bit of ****, but there hasnt been any update to confirm whether or not he had to do that.

Yes I went with the mopar bar
I have not had any flash up grade for tow bar done and every thing works fine, the reverse camera even has the oh sh$t line level with the tow ball
We have the crd which I believe comes with all the tow package wiring etc factory installed, don't know if this is the case for the V6

I was told by the autoelec at the dealer today that after the tow bar wiring harness is installed that they do reflash the vehicle. The harness isn't preinstalled but there is a connector up in the rear LH quarter panel under the window that they plug into.
He stated (referring to our CRD specifically) that the vehicle is hooked up via the internet to Jeep service in the US where the VIN history is updated with changes, and the vehicle canbus is programmed to accept the extra line loads expected from a trailer connection.
Obviously from your experience Yoda, it will work without it.
Question arises then what difference it makes?
