WK2 to JK

Hey all,

I bought a WK2 several months ago and had really liked it. I was really troubled by the piss-poor gas mileage (13.5mpg) and not being able to fit it anywhere! I got a letter about a buy-back program at a local dealer due to high demand for WK2's... so I checked it out. They ended up giving me what I paid for the car (got it used) in trade in!!
Long story short, came home with a 2012 JK with upgraded Sahara wheels/tires and am paying way less per mo. I love it, the pentastar in the JK is amazing. Ride improved by lightyears over may 1995 YJ I had a 15 years ago. Amazing car, hope to post pics soon. Its not a rubicon or sahara, just a regular guy wrangler... but I love it.
Cheers! Hope the Wrangler forum picks up!

Here you go. Been waiting a while for that Trail Rated badge!

I couldn't believe they had a Sport, in the color I wanted, with a hard top, and the accessories I wanted. Rubicon would have been awesome, but not in the budget considering I was trying to save money over the old GC. The 18" sahara wheels and A/T tires help a bit with that though.

I'm enjoying it so much that I already "wasted" almost half a tank of gas! Guess I need to break the engine in anyway...

That would have been incredible!! The WK2 was so smooth, drove like a dream. I don't know why mine got such atrocious gas mileage and parking it in Seattle was a nightmare.... that and I have wanted a wrangler since I got rid of my YJ, my very first car.

Yea it is. I don't know why, but when I was looking at JK's this color just popped out at me. I like the black on tan contrast a lot. I don't see too many others around in this color (maybe because nobody else likes them ;))

Its a rare color. Jeep abruptly quit making it. Good find! When I bought mine almost a year ago in early 11, it took my dealer a while to find it!

Did your WK2 have a hemi?

No, pentastar. That was the puzzling thing. I was hoping for a bit better gas mileage, but like a lot of buyers I only looked at the published MPG data and thought, "Well that looks OK". I bought it certified used so no telling how the prior owner "broke" the engine in. Also, seattle is very hilly and I only do city driving, add in winter gas and that takes the MPG down.
Gas mileage was only a fraction of the story though. I don't think that I will get significantly better mileage in the wrangler (though am getting about 3mpg better right now). There is also the size factor (parking, etc) and something inside me always lead me to the autotrader.com looking at wranglers...

All that being said, if I was to pony up the money for another WK2 (maybe when I grow up :D), I'd go for the Hemi.

wow! that is surprising. Your right though, no telling now the previous owner treated it. I do only highway driving, but with alot of stop and go traffic most of the time. there are a few roads that i travel where there is no traffic so the mpgs go up. I've been getting around 22mpg.
If i was getting 13.5 i would probably cry....LOL!!

all that matters is that your happy with your decision! :) plus since it's the 2 door wrangler that should definitely make it a little easier to park.

Love the Wrangler too! Congrats!
