Umm...new PCM's can sense viscosity, so we can't run Mobil 1 Syn Oil???...

...since when??!!!

Took JGC into dealer again today for followup regarding CEL alert and one of the Svc Mgr's asked me if an oil change had been performed recently & what oil was used...I replied, Yes, and Mobil 1 Syn 5w-20...he said the new PCM's when combined with MDS on HEMI's did not like the M1 Syn oil. :(

Anybody have any thoughts on this?? *Milous...???

Also...the CEL was related to a false EVAP code, so they got on phone with Chrysler and were advised that they should replace the PCM due to a electrical miscommunication with PCM...so that will be completed by end of week (hopefully on Wed). *

Unless...someone can shed light on recommended oil...I see no reason to discontinue the use of M1 Syn.

TIA

all OIL has a mil spec listed on the back o f the bottle.

they build engines to oil specs and viscosity.

if you match both of those then you better not get a light.

jeep USED to sell M1. now they sell either penziol of some other crap/

tell him to show you that in writing or go lay an egg/

I've been running with Mobil1 5W-20 since my first oil change, and my 5.7 hasn't complained (2 oil changes so far).

5w20 for the MDS Hemis. Has nothing to do with the PCM.

Most end users neither care nor know the difference.

Sounds like a load of crap to me, from the Owner's Manual....

"Synthetic Engine Oils
You may use synthetic engine oils if the recommended oil
quality requirements are met, and the recommended
maintenance intervals for oil and filter changes are
followed."

And from the yellow slip (may be for an SRT8 but came with my V6): full synthetic 0W-40 (that is correct, zeroW-40).

Keep in mind the range of viscosities (see SAE J-300) that are permitted in a 5W-20 with the effects of temperature and the idea that the brane-box senses (chorkle) dino vs synthetic (chorkle), is (chorkle chorkle) to laugh. Bet I can run a 10w-30 and nothing would happen.

I get my 2012 OVerland V8 serviced at a large Chrysler dealer here in the Toronto GTA. Their oil of preference for the Hemi with MDS is Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W20. I think that the story smells like manure (bullshit).
