Re: Break in?

There are instructions in the owner's guide. As I recall (Hemi) the guidance is no sustained cruising at the same speed or full throttle operation, but Jeep does recommend an occasional full throttle burst during this short break-in period.

Re: Break in?

I just got beyond the 300 mile mark in my 2012 Overland V6. The manual clearly states NO engine break-in is necessary, although speeds of around 50-60mph are desired after the initial first 60 miles. It also states brief full throttle burst also contribute to a good engine break in. DOing this for the first 300 miles is what it recommends. For the most part, just drive normal with an occassional full throttle here and there to get the engine through its entire range. Dont do any full throttles from a stop though always while at cruise.

Well I did 80+ when it had less than 100 miles - just enjoy and have fun. Life is short :D

Re: Break in?

Sorta: "Drive moderately during the first 300 miles (500 km).
After the initial 60 miles (100 km), speeds up to 50 or
55 mph (80 or 90 km/h) are desirable.

While cruising, brief full-throttle acceleration within the
limits of local traffic laws contributes to a good break-in.
Wide-open throttle acceleration in low gear can be detrimental
and should be avoided." (12 OM 4th ed)

That's how they drive them when the dealer trades vehicles with another dealer.

Do you think the factory babies the vehicles after final assembly? NO!

It's all about ring seal. Warm it up, drive it like a pissed-off high schooler, loading it up in each gear.

Re: Break in?

Drive it like you intend on driving it for it's lifespan. Do you think people drive them like grannies on test-drives off the lot? It is probably a good idea to vary speeds though. If you go WOT or tow a lot, it's not your break-in's fault that you are putting extra stress on the engine.
