Satellite Radio - Poor reception.

Does anyone else have crappy reception on their satellite radio? I've had it in past cars and its never been this bad. Seems to drop the signal for 10ish seconds several times per day - happens once or twice an hour.

Thoughts?

Check your antenna. Mine was loose. I removed, added dielectric grease and reinstalled it tightly (it "clicks" into place, turn a bit farther than you think is initially tight, but not too much...). My reception on Sirius improved significantly. Best luck.

I have a constant humming, buzzing sound in the background on both of my 2k12 jgc's It is annoying as hell.

No humming or buzzing. Worked great once I tightened the antenna. I always get compliments on the quality of sound from riders, including the ones that drove to lunch with me today. It is the best sound system I have ever had in a car, even better than the upgraded OEM Ford and GM (Bose) systems in my last two SUV's. I will admit it sounds best when playing mp3's off the HDD, but both the FM and Sirius reception is good to very good in my opinion.

Perhaps the clear, clean, crisp air in the Midwest helps....

I apologize - where is the antenna?

It is also possible that drop outs are due to coverage problems. Sirius is a line-of-sight system, if anything gets between you and the satellites for long enough the signal will drop out.

Yeah, I definitely understand LoS issues, i've been using satellite GPS in aviation for years. These drop outs are open sky issues, not obstructed views.

I've had no issues with mine over the last year, and that includes a lot of mountain driving in deep canyons. You may have an antenna or radio problem.

Yeah - sounds like it. I've had sat radio in other cars and never had reception issues. I'll check connections, etc this weekend.

Then again, my 1 year trial expires in 2 months, doubtful that I'll re-up.

Still no solution to this annoying sound. If you tune to channel Zero which has no broadcast and turn the volume up loud and you hear humming buzzing static , this is what I hear in the background, do you year it?

Re: Satellite Radio - Poor reception.

I had this happen last year and advise from member Ratchet was right on. He suggested that I call Sirius and ask for a "refresh". Sirius answered on 3rd ring, told me what was involved and waited 2 minutes for me to pull over and park. She then "refreshed" me. It was like giving the SAT radio HGH!
