Tinting Question

Hi - I'm going to get my front windows tinted next week and was wondering if ceramic film is worth the extra money. Will it more closely match the back windows? If it doesn't matter, I'll probably just go with the 3M.

I got two estimates:

Tint Shop A said they could either use Solarmatrex (both windows for $80) or use ceramic film (both windows for $120). Not sure who makes the ceramic film.

Tint Shop B said they would use 3M (both windows for $80).

Also, I really want to get the tint to match the back windows but I'm concerned that it will impact the auto dimming side mirrors at night. I've heard some people say it's not a problem and others say they had their 20% removed because they could no longer see anything at night in their auto dimming mirrors. Do you think 20% would be okay or should I just stick with 35%? Seems like 35% would be a pretty noticeable difference from front to back . . .

Re: Tinting Question

35% is generally the legal limit in most states. 20% will match the rears just fine. From what I've seen with different brands of 20%, looking from the inside out, you will notice a lil difference.

It doesn't interfere with the auto dim mirrors being the photocells are on the rear view.

Re: Tinting Question

well i know it won't physically interfere but i was thinking it just might be really hard to see when you combine 20% + auto dimming. maybe i'll just try it and see what happens and always switch it out if i don't like it.

thanks

Re: Tinting Question

How often do you use your side mirrors at night when you're not in motion? If they dim, usually there is a car behind you and you can see their headlights in the mirrors. The biggest issue I have is turning onto some unlit streets at night and looking through the 20%. It's not too bad, just take it slow...

Re: Tinting Question

As bmrisko stated above, it's definately dark. I live a bit outside the city where the all of the roads are pretty much un-lit. I can't see much of anything out of the side windows alone at night, but can see vehicles behind me even if the mirrors are dimmed.
